I had two games as a premade 5 with some IRL friends today and one of them played Maokai. He had the highest CS in the game during the laning phase, both games.
One very cheap trick that you can abuse with Maokai - at 1:05, start tossing saplings on the enemy jungler's wraith camp (obviously this only really works in solo queue and low ELO where nobody guards the jungle). At 1:40, you can steal the entire wraith camp (and almost hit level 2) with just your saplings. Then walk up to top/mid lane and farm, hit level 2 WAY before them, and zone them out with sapling+W.
His ultimate is also an insanely good farming tool. >.>

Mao is tanky AP, won't be able to build up enough AP to make it work. The movespeed and slow is a huge factor too.

Ok, I'm going to start really testing him out. I've just reached 1600 elo again so I'm going to stop ranking and start normal game testing mao. ^^
I've seen people do that before Jebus. I've seen one Mao get away with it and other one got ****in destroyed. xD

Not sure what that has to do with Triforce Maokai.
Anyways, Triforce>Lichbane on him because Triforce gives stats, and gives Maokai everything he needs.

wouldn't Youmuu's Fit in there pretty good together with triforce?
It gives him CdR and ArP and is pretty cheap, the active would kick ***.
