Zilean was always a good mage, even tough he has only one single burst ability, he can repeat that one ****in often and it scales with 0,9 AP, show me just one single other non-ult ability that scales so high, kthxbai. Also his ult is very very strong to, while it doesnt heal that much without AP/Support Zil, everyone except maybe tanks are full with mage zil. However when i playd Zil, and as a "Mage" it was back then when there was Zhonyas Hourglass, so i cant remember so well :/

Tri lane for life.

I start amp tome, use ap/lvl blues, mana/5 seals, magic pen reds/quints and Zil has about 110~ AP at level 9 with amp tome + NLR.
Wat..
D ring > Amp tome. ALWAYS.
AP quints>MrP quints. Almost always. (but AP is BY FAR the best on Zilean)

It's pretty decent, but nothing more than maybe a situational choice imo.
