League of Legends (LoL) Question: Do you think mental state can have a big impact on games?

Do you think mental state can have a big impact on games?

I'm not referring to playing while angry or something similar, that much will obviously negatively impact your games. I'm referring to smaller differences in your mental state, like some sort of pessimism or defeatism.

Been a while now that I'm not terribly comfortable playing this game. My lack of skill has given me a weird sense of inferiority so when I finally decide to play, I sort of feel like "ugh this is going to suck". Just yesterday I hopped in a game because I wanted to try out a build I found here that I liked and sure enough the game went downhill really fast.

So this brings me back to my original question. A clear mental state is important for this game, as any other, but do you people think that even small differences in your mind like this one can actually affect how you play?

I've always believed that going into anything with a negative mindset usually results in it coming true. That's why it's always recommended in anything to take a moment to gather yourself before doing anything important. You never want to play while tiled, as you will never grow and learn.

As for small differences, having doubts even the smallest can be enough to set you back and set-up for failure. Hope I made sense, hope you improve and enjoy League of Legends. If you need any help, feel free to Direct Message me.

Confidence can definitely be a huge asset for performance. You aren't going to take enough risks or trust your own judgment if you expect everything to go badly.

dunno i think its healtier to be under pressure than thinking your game is alerdy winned, if you think you win by default you will play a much poorly and can even throw the game, that counting with the 45 throws your team will do every time is not really a good things.

If you are not confident in your mechanics just pick things that not require so much and are viable in meta, from your pic i will assume you are main support, so champions like Yuumi or Nami are relative easy to pick, and are more of decision than acutal mechanics (but missing nami ult will not help at all even if you had good intentions casting it)

Or if you are a good mechanic player but bad on taking decisions go for pyke, he's very forgiven when missplayed in lane phase and extremly rewarding when doing a good play.

Your Mental State definitely has an impact on the game and your gameplay. Play your main confident and good, you will wreck your opponent. Play your main with doubts and perform poorly, you will get punished and you become more and more frustrated and eventually angry. This will just lead you to doubt yourself more.

Not only your own performance and mentality. Your mate's mentality will also have an impact, unless all types of communication have been blocked. It's important that you have a clear mindset, as well as your team, to play a good game. If you have a single doubt already in Champ select, just quit. You can do that as often as you want. Maybe you would've won that game you just quit, maybe not. But the important thing is, that you got rid of your doubts.

I personally think it does since usually optimistic people tend to think differently when they win or lose, like if they win they usually feel way better about themselves and stuff and even if they lose they just rethink their game and look for the mistakes or not get sad over it and still try to think of the postive things in it. what i noticed from one of my friends behaviour (he has been diagnosed with depression recently) he stopped playing league, or any other game really and doesnt get the motivation or want to play them. usually games based on other players as well take a lot from you, mentally i mean. so I think its actually important to put your mental state over games sometimes.

Of course. Make sure to take care of yourself (exercise, meditate, write in a journal, go outside) and improve your mindset regarding the game (focus on your mistakes rather than the game's outcome).

"Improve". Yeah, that's my biggest snag with this game, I've been playing for too many years and I haven't improved at all, in fact I've gotten worse. That's where my "this is going to suck" mentality comes from, I know the enemy is going to be better than me and in true LoL community fashion, will bully me across the entire game's duration.

To answer the question i would say yes. Ones outlook can greatly enhance or take away from what one is trying to accomplish. A good example of this is some ranked games. There are those who give up at the first sign of trouble. There are those that give up when the going gets tough. That is the defeatism your referring to. Then there are others that are optimistic and/or confident in themselves. Those players play thru and try harder to over come what ever obsticals that are in there path. So yeah your mental state can mean the difference in games because it helps your make those small decisions that add up to the bigger win/loss.

Not exactly what I meant by defeatism. It's more of a "this is going to suck" attitude in anticipation of the enemy (I main jungle so in this case the enemy jungler) being better than me and by being overly cautious not to completely screw everything up I end up doing less and less in-game. Then comes the defeatism you mentioned where after it goes tits-up (pardon the language) I regress to "yeah I knew it" and sort of wait for the game to end. I will grab any opportunities if they appear, such as an enemy making a grave mistake, but other than that I become resigned to everything happening. I know confidence is useful but it's hard for me to be confident when I plainly see that whatever skill I had has dulled heavily as of late.
