Advice for new players who want to climb

The topic is very self explanatory, but I will go ahead and write what this topic is meant to cover:
This topic's goal is to ask the higher elo players for their guidance toward new players, a lot of new players including myself are head banging against the wall in bronze desperately searching for an edge that will allow them to break through. I will make a short list of things that lower elo players overlook based on my own mistakes and on mistakes of other people I have seen.

Vision: A concept that is literally unknown to most lower elo players and a lot of games and lanes are lost because of it. Lower elo players do not accept criticism of any sort something I learned the hard way.

Engage: A lot of players including myself misjudge the timing to engage and make stupid and quite ridiculous mistakes which can cost lanes, teamfights, objectives and etc.

Tilt: If you see someone on your team that is tilting or having an angry fit, I would try to calm him down and focus him back on the game. Some other players would simply try to argue and tilt the entire team which can result in a significant number of mistakes because the players are not focusing on the game but on the argument, their goal changes from winning the game to defending their non-existent pride in an online game.

This is an advice from me: Forget the concept of pride when playing League of Legends, I am personally trying to overcome this issue, but I am having difficulty, I would also like advice on all of those topics and ask the higher elo players to mention other issues they have encountered.

I haven't mentioned trolls, but even if I am to mention them there is nothing you can do about them except to report them and hope Riot does something about it.

Bad calls and miscommunication are other issues which lead to anger and anger leads to the Dark Side, final stage of the Dark Side would be rage quitting after offering some witty comment about how bad your team is and etc... I am making this topic hoping to receive some advice on how to climb despite all of those issues because I am hard-stuck in Bronze 1 and even fell today to B2...

Hey, just want to start off by saying that I have been Bronze 5 myself (Season 3), and at the beginning of this season reached Diamond 1. I have seen it all! I can say through experience, since I have climbed on many different accounts using different champs and roles, through so many metas, that your number 1 goal should be to focus on improving (very general and common advice lol).

The end of season is near and all the questions you've asked will apply now more than ever. I'm currently back from a 6-8 month break from League, and im around D3-4 elo trying to make that final climb myself, so good luck!

So, I must start off by saying that you're attitude is great, especially when you mention "Forget the concept of pride when playing League of Legends". This attitude, along with time and experience, will get you far.

Vision - Although this may sound extreme, don't worry about your team vision. If your team wants to buy sightstone and ward, great, that's always helpful. If not, do not even waste a single second trying to convince anyone to do anything. Of all the things I've learnt in this game (and in life lol), trying to give unsolicited advice or suggestions is always a bad idea. It doesn't matter if your Yasuo is building a Deathcap and you ask him nicely to build an IE, it will 99.99% backfire and just isn't worth your energy. Instead of even thinking for 1 second about how the Yasuo should be building, think about how you can outplay your laner. What conditions do you need to kill him/her? What is the most efficient item you can buy next? Is botlane low hp? Can you dive them?

Focus 100% on your lane / jungle when it comes to vision. Buy a control ward when you feel threatened and use your trinkets efficiently. Don't just place a ward in river if you see enemy jungler top. He won't be mid for another 15-30 seconds so save that ward for later.

Engaging - This is a very general topic. Every game will change depending on team comps / champs etc. I wouldn't worry to much about it. Sometimes it just takes experience and knowing your limits. Try to be aware of any heavy CC or skill-shots they have missed / used, then make a decision to go in. Again, very situational and something that will come with experience and testing.

Tilt - This is one of the greatest mental blocks players have at every level. Even Rank 1 challenger players will tilt, so figure out what works for you. Going for a walk, taking a break, even continue playing through the tilt until you don't care about losing and it doesn't effect you. See what works for you.

As for trying to calm a player down? Ignore them and mute. The last thing you should do is worry about anyone but yourself. You only have so much mental energy each game to focus on yourself and improve, why even waste a second on someone who is emotionally unstable and having a fit?

Here's how I learnt to climb out of bronze-plat: I carefully watched smurfs. I realised, when smurfs play, they get straight to the point. They take initiative when they have to. They don't waste time. If they are playing Zed, they will abuse his strengths (split push, 1v1, play aggressive and still escape ganks). Watching smurfs imo, is better than watching 2 challengers play against each other. Because they are so advanced in their mindset and mechanics, its extremely hard to mimic or copy them. When you have a gold/plat smurf in bronze, they are good enough to destroy the enemy, but not so advanced you can't copy it yourself. Also, smurfs rarely talk or argue, they just do their thing and have fun doing it.

My advice to you: Bronze is an elo that absolutely rewards you for taking control and initiative of the game. Take everything, farm up, kill your laner / enemy jungler, push, push, push.

Things to focus on: Your CS, how you trade, getting kills, split pushing (if you have a certain champ for this), doing more than you are expected to (don't just kill your laner, find a way to kill jungler as well).

Things to let go of (out of your control): Talking to your team, trying to co-ordiante the team (unless its a simple ping to baron and they are close by), giving any advice to team, . Pretty much mute all every game if you're serious about improving and becoming the best player you can be. You can leave the chat to normal games and having fun with friends.

I wish I could give specific advice, such as which champ / role / items for your specific situation, but i'll keep it as general as the question is. I 100% believe you can get silver by the end of this season with the right focus and enough games (if that's your goal).

Answer was very messy, I kind of just dumped everything I could think about from my experience. Take what you can from it, even if its only a single thing!

Sure, I don't mind. I will get to it as soon as time allows it.

Ok, if you could play a few games ranked, preferably your strongest lanes and champs, and make sure to press record on opgg right as your game starts. I can then download and watch the replay, make a review / coaching vid and upload for you to watch it.

ADC/Mid main, can generally play a champion on competitive level on all lanes. My main picks for the bottlane are Lucian, Ezreal, Caitlyn and Xayah, when I play against hyper carries I tend to pick good ol' Varus since he is the bane of most of them.

For the mid my pick is a rather straightforward: Twisted Fate a damn good champion that can play a role at any stage of the game even if he is behind. I used to play Vlad mid too, he was a beast. http://euw.op.gg/summoner/userName=Astromdeux
Also if you have the time I would be honored. I am very accepting of critique because in my opinion I have hit a wall for which I am willing to take any edge to overcome.
I am a university student, so I can't spend that much time playing the game as I did in the summer, so mostly 2 or 3 games max per day? :D On my free days I can spend a whole day playing league.

If you would like specific advice for your situation, maybe you could tell me the following: Your role/s that you play (Adc, mid, etc), What champs you currently play, your ping (latency), how long have you been playing league, how often do you play, have you played a highly competitive game before (dota/ow/cod etc.), and how much time have you got in the next 3 weeks to practice?

If you want you can give me your OPGG and I can give you a video replay with tips and coaching advice. I can heavily critique it and tell you everything you're doing wrong and what you can do instead that is correct or a better option. This is not necessary but you may be interested.

I have asked a lot of players before posting on this forum, but most of them tell me that the most important factor to becoming a better player is experience, I played more than 300-400 games this season and I do not feel that I have become better in any way. My general knowledge of items has improvised a bit, thanks to the cool guys who make guides for each and every champion. But it feels like there is a big wall that is preventing me from breaking into the next division and climbing further.

    Very good questions.

Vision - You should place the vision in the place that give you the most information needed, neer baron/ dragon when they are up to know if the enemies are there, need junctions and brushes so it will give you more idea when the enemy is, check the bottom of my guild for more information (there is a whole chapter just for it)

Engages - "When to" is mostly come by experience, you should engage when you know you can win the fight (2v1 if he not fed) and if you see/saw most of the enemy team and know their location (vision and mini-map awareness) and that they won't come help their friends. One thing that need to be achieve too is to know when to disengage, you may engage and the other team member can teleport, sometimes it mean you need to disengage and leave the fight.

Tilt - communication can be for doing better and doing less, the lower the elo the less it will be possible to make the the communication work :-(, because in low elo (bronze, silver) sometimes players think they know better and won't listen and just argue. USE THE MUTE BUTTON it a must thing you need to learn, if they flame in chat you can must it without the pings but do what ever you think is better.

For trolls you should know the chance to win a game is 50% because the way making team the system have, it should make 5v5 equal, so the only way to climb is to be better so for you it will be 51% or more, every body lose and every body wins, doesn't matter how good or bad they are.

Last thing, every body on this game get tilted or raging, just don't keep playing until you calm after it, if it take you a day to calm or some hours, or maybe just play normals and don't give a **** and try to improve if you are tilted (i prefer ARAM).

If something wasn't clear or if you have more questions feel welcome to ask.
