How should you build Katarina top lane?

So I have been seeing a lot of 's going top lane lately and they almost always rush a or a . I don't know if this is ideal or not because they literally have NO damage early-mid game. So, what do you guys think? I was thinking of getting a early or maybe a depending on the matchup since both these items are tanky AP.

The items you mentioned are what you generally wanna go with on Top Lane Katarina but there's something about her item build that you have to understand. Going defensive items such as Rylai's or Warmogs will make you lose out on a TON of damage.

The trick behind building her right for Top Lane is knowing what you'll need more against your opponent. Damage (against someone not that durable) or Beefiness (against someone who will withstand your burst anyways even if you go for dmg items)

I find going for an early Haunting Guise, then move straight onto Giant's Belt and finish Rylai's doing pretty nicely. Although personally, I dislike pure tank items like Warmog's Armor or Sunfire Cape on Katarina. She is an assassin, so build her like one. Even if you want more tankiness, make sure it gives a bit of damage too.
If you're against an AP top though, rush an Abyssal Scepter.
