League of Legends (LoL) Question: Pick order or call order?

    Pick order or call order?

Every group of people I see in draft/ranked has a different theory on this, but I wanna know what you all think? Should roles be called or should everyone just go by the pick order?

Logic says that people should call the roles they are best at, especially if they are a later pick, less chance to be countered, but a lot of people think there is some mythical rule in the summoner's code that says "first pick gets what it wants, always"

Is that rule even real? And isn't it better to let the solo lanes be picked last?

There are no rules for picking.

It's COURTESY to give people what they want.

If you don't, people play worse.

Giving people what they want is better because when they say they're better with something, they probably are.

It's stupid that this is how LoL has become but yes the Call Order prevails. No, it isn't a rule but it would make everything so much easier if it was made a rule or just outlined that it doesn't mean anything.

It should be about "Can you jungle?" or "Can you support?" not "Will you jungle?" or "Will you support?". If this game is going to get anywhere in making it's teams better, why not provide a function where if you own a character or have used a free character over once in that day in a specific tier, you will be available for that position.
For example, if you own Janna or have played as her over once in a single day when she is a free character, you shall have a 'S' over your summoner name and icon.

Please consider bumping for other to view. :)

This comment reminds me of how the dungeon ques for WoW got that option. I didn't play much longer after that but all the same it seemed to work okay, other than when you just got stuck with bad people. :) Would be a really good idea though for when you don't have the friends online to do a pre-made.

    Pick order>Call order.

Sure, feel free to call out jungle, i'll pick my jungler regardless if you're 5th pick and i'm first. Unless i feel like playing something else that is.

Also to quote the summoners code: "If you’re the last one to pick, try to fill a niche in your team that hasn’t already been filled."

    >Last pick, fill niche.

    >Pick order.

Nowhere in the Summoner's Code does it say 'Calling > Pick Order' or vice versa. It's written that you try and fit in a spot in your team.

The 'calling = spot' theory is silly because it basically says: 'because I have faster internet or faster typing skills, I get to go where I want'.

The 'pick order = spot' is also silly because it doesn't factor in individual preferences/skills. Not to mention that 'I'm first pick, so I get to pick what I want and last pick can shut up' is a stupid point of view to take, seeing that last pick can trollpick (and it's not against the rules to do so, either).

So it's a matter of communication and luck depending on matchmaking. Work with what you have, see who can go where. If it doesn't work, dodge (or play if it's just a normal and you don't care about losing).

    Pick Order > Call Order.

Giving someone what they want is a courtesy, but in no way are you forced to do it.

Also, the logic for this is, if you're higher elo, you're better, so you will have a better chance of winning that lane.

Which is why I say "prefer x roles," because it tells my team where I'm best at.

No, it's not. You pick what's open for you, unless you can convince your team to give you something. Play all roles at least equally so you don't feed if you have to play support.

The other option that I've heard people do is dodge if you don't get the role you want. Seems to work for some people.

I usually prefer playing support but if someone else picks it I'd switch to jungle, barely anyone plays or likes those two so I always get one or the other.

I mean, I am usually nice and give up roles even if I call it, but some people are such *******s about the "PICK ORDER" ****.

when people fight over support, I know ****'s gonna go down.

usually I just dodge when 3 people instalock brand, leblanc and ahri tho.

There's no rule and everyone is a ****ing baby that can't do something. And the most ridiculous is that 90% of the time no one wants to support, but when someone does they are either Blitzcrank/ Leona (the typical "I can't support for **** but I can make kill lanes) or two guys fighting for the spot.

Meh, i got this problem, i duo Queue with my bro, who is like 1 tier above me so i will not get a early pick, i need to play "bottom lane" which is my worst position, i keep trying to tell others that i'd rather Dodge than play ADC cuz im so poor at that role honestly.

The call order is really just a matter of courtesy. If your teammates have manners of any sort, they'd let you.

But then, pick orders > call orders. There really isn't anything you can do when someone else decides to take a role you asked for before your pick.

if im banning i always say "shout out positions" this gives people an idea of where people are going but again its just courtesy and if you dont get where you want just play wehat you are given to the best of your ability
