Understanding your damage and your toughness
So in an article I recently read on what you should know or be working on at different ELOs, one of the things that was mentioned for Bronze players was "How much damage can be given and taken by your champ and those you commonly face."
And here I am sitting in low Gold and I'm not even really sure where to start with this question. My approach has been get the mechanics down and the damage will happen. Or to put it another way, I stab it or shoot it and hope it dies.
So what tools are people using to try and figure this out? Are their spreadsheets for figuring out how much you do at each level, with different items? What about for how much damage you can take?
How much emphasis do you put on this as higher ELO players? Do you literally know that with a full rotation at level 6 + Ignite and a completed Youmuu's Ghostblade I do 800 dmg?
Giving some serious thought to actually maining a champion for a while just to see if I can get this down on at least one champion.

When you have targeted something, champion tower or minion you get extra information in the top left corner of your screen.
This bar gives health but if you pay actual attention it also shows you stuff like movement speed,
armour and attack damage ect.
I think the attack damage is based on auto attacks (and does not count in armour), but this gives you an good idea on what each auto attack will do to you.
An example; when I saw this post I was watching Scarra who had targetted an Xin that had an AD stat of 250 (ish) so each auto attack would do 230 if you dont count armour stats.
If your playing an champ that has 1200 hp that means Xin needs 5 auto attacks to deal the 1200 hp and kill you.
How this translates to howmuch damage actual abilities will do to you I have no idea.
I guess you need to get a good grasp on what the champion does in general, and once you know tbis how they scale with their abilities abilities.
(an champion who's abilities scale 0.6 per AD/AP is weaker then an champion that scales 0.8 per AD/AP)
So tldr; not sure how this works on abilities but this should help you figure out what each auto attack will do to you I hope.

Thanks @ Remmehkube. I don't use the click on them for stat information very often. Like tab to see what items they have and such, looks like that is something I made need to do more of in the future.
There are some things you should focus on that will help you get knowing how much damage will happens
1) what is the role of the champion and what class is he (as you can see here) -
1.1) The classes are chose by Riot, this mean what the champion designers wanted the champion to do. For example you will expect assassins to have a combo that burst champions and after it they will need a gap to do their combo again, mostly based on abilities.
1.2) The roles are chose by the community/meta, this mean that if you have a support against you he will probably have high base damage to his abilities, or if it an ADC he will have good scaling potential.
2) TAB key, use it. A big role in the game is gold and how you use it, to follow this you should use your TAB key to see what the enemy have, if he bought a lot of armor and you AD champion you will do less damage, if he fed and have a huge on hit damage you can expect it. And if he didn't buy any item until the 12th minute you he probably have a lot of gold buy he would do much less damage.
3) Trading - a very good way to see how much you can take from the enemy or do to the enemy. You should not take a risky trade but a short one that you can really feel how much you or he can do. (much easier and useful in laning phase especially after one of you bought new item)
4) Read the description - you surely read what an item can do, but you can even see numbers, take it in mind. Try left click on the enemy and see how much health does he have, in the end you will know what 200 damage do to someone with defenses and when you need lethality or AD or AS and so on. (read ignite too, it does true damage, mostly counter by shields).
I am not sure if i missed something but i surely can explain myself more if needed.
