League of Legends (LoL) Question: Why is latency lower at the start of loading?

Why is latency lower at the start of loading?

I notice as soon as the loading screen pops up, my latency is 162. Then it rapidly goes up to the normal 664ish a few seconds into the loading screen ~then it stays that high all game. I only have satellite internet here and it is notoriously bad. I am curious tho why the ping is so low right at the start and if there is any way to keep this low ping.

Hello! I would say your ping is displayed as lower when the match begins because the game is still trying to calculate your correct ping. The calculation process can take a few seconds to accurately determine and display your real ping.

While I am not a pro at this kind of thing, I would assume the reason why you have a low ping during the first few seconds is because League had not loaded all of the people in yet. Basically my theory for this is that the less people there are in a match, the less you have to try and connect to their internet, and the less ping you use. Once again, I'm not very experienced in this department, so I may be very wrong.

TL;DR, Less people=less ping, and unless you play with bots, no you can't fix it.
