"I saw [Twilight: Eclipse] in theaters with a girl I was dating at the time. I spent more time staring at my toes and wiggling them than I did watching this abomination. When Edward proposed to Blank Face, I finally looked up with a revelation.
I blurted out loud, in a dead silent theater full of teenage girls on opening night "Wait a minute, Edward has no blood flow. How does he get an erection?" I heard several men laughing, and had several girls turn and stare at me.
I did not get laid that night." - Berengier817

A custom ROM sounds like a plan, thanks! Would you have any recommendations?
I might also just go this way:

I don't think I'm special enough to carry such a phone around xD

You'll probably want a ROM with update functionality built in, because if you root you'll have to manually update to future Android versions, which can be a pain.
Cyanogenmod is probably a safe bet.
Then there's SlimROM if you want something light on resources. It should lend itself to slightly better battery life and performance.
Also, you got an N4?
"Blizzard spoke thus; Thou shalt not BM. And the players replied Nay, I shall Play my hand with Lethal already on the board. And so Blizzard sent unto them this Brawl of Yogg, As a lesson for their sins of Pride and Greed, for he is the Prophet of Madness and RNG. On that day, the tavern descended into an era of chaos and darkness, until the weekend passed and everyone forgot all about it. Amen. Book of SMOrc, Verse 20, Chapter 4." - Feam T

Sure, but that's rather limited for a smartphone, lel.
Why not just flash a ROM with app ops (permission options) built in?
Or if you're lazy and have lots of money laying around you could buy the phone that the video was kind of an advertisement for:

The hardware isn't great for the price, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't get any safer than that.
