The US only avoided this for the most part (afaik) because of the anti-socialism propaganda that's been shoved down their people's rectum since over a century. A country where people can die outside of a hospital if they don't have money shouldn't be called a "developed country". Also, your grandchildren might have economic and/or health problems, so they could one day be thankful of you paying a bit more of taxes for it, even if you wouldn't need it yourself. The only people that actually end up "losing" in the deal are rich families that know their heirs won't need state care, and whose work can't compare to people that couldn't afford the commodities they had since their birth. These people are casually who attack more harshly these measures, because they know they won't see the benefits, and some of them have enough opinion weight as to actually convince people that would be benefitted both short and long term that they should be against it.[/quote]
