Janjan, the federal minimum wage in the US is $7.25/hour. The minimum wage can be raised above this by the state, North Dakota has not opted to do so. Moorhead (which is literally across a river from here and basically the same city tbh) is in Minnesota, which has a minimum wage of $9.50/hour (if I remember properly, that is). If jobs in Fargo didn't pay at least that much, people would just get higher paying jobs in Moorhead.

$15US is ~$20AUD, pretty much what casual/part-time workers are paid here for jobs such as cashiers, waiters etc.
