I've just recently got into playing ranked games, and I've been having a hard time getting out of Bronze. I primarily play Support, but I also like to play mid as well. My preferred champions are Nami and Sona. I'm Mastery 7 with both of them, so I feel like I have a good understanding of the classes, but I consistently am paired up with a lackluster team.

I know you need to have a positive mindset while in bronze, but there are times when that just isn't possible due to trolls.

I don't know if its the fact I should be playing a different type of support to get out of bronze or if I should work on my mid lane game to carry myself out.

Here is my matchhistory: http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/NA1/201686928

Thanks for the help! <3

You are in bronze, so both you and your teammates are lackluster, that being said, so is the enemy team, and because of this, you'll have an easy time of getting out of there, if you focus on improving yourself.

If you want to feel like you are carrying more as a support, you could go for a more aggressive/damage focused support like Brand, Zyra or Annie. To be honest, without seeing your gameplay, or at the very least, getting to look at your match history, there isn't much I can say to actually help you.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the response and the advice. I've played a bit of Zyra, but she seems to get banned alot in low elo. I've seen Brand in action, but I've never played him much. i will take a look into practicing with him.

I also added my match-history to my original post.

Just from a quick glace at the match history, I can see that you have 3 questionable obsessions in your builds, those being Rylai's Crystal Scepter/ Liandry's Torment on Nami, Lich Bane on Sona and Ionian Boots of Lucidity on every mid laner you play. (Do note that I ignored every game that seemed like a stomp, since those are irrelevant)
So, before I explain why I take issue with those items, perhaps you could tell me why you always seem to buy them?

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Of course.

For Nami, I generally grab Rylai's to match with her Ultie. The knock-up from her Ult plus the slow from the item I feel are a good combo to match with team fights, to lessen the chance of someone being able to get away. I will pair Liandry's with it against teams that are more tanky for the extra burn effect that is paired with the impaired movement it gets from Ultie/Liandry's.

For Sona, I play more aggressively with her so I build towards that poke which is why I add Lich Bane to her build.

As for the boots, I like to have the extra CDR so that is why I choose those.

Alright, so for starters, Rylai's Crystal Scepter slow does not stack with the slow from Tidal Wave and because the Tidal Wave slow is both stronger, and lasts longer, it's the slow that's going to be applied, instead of the Rylai's slow. (The same is true for her Tidecaller's Blessing)
(Same applies to Karma, 2 of her damaging abilities already have a better slow than the one that Rylai's will give, so it's a waste)

As for Liandry's Torment, stacking damage on a support that's not suited for dealing damage is almost always sub-optimal, unless you are winning by a landslide, at which point what you build becomes irrelevant, however, if you really feel like you need more AP on Nami, you could get a Morellonomicon, which will give you flat 100 AP and 20%CDR, which coupled with your decent base damages will give you more power for the same amount of coin, or just build more offensive support items like, an early Ardent Censer, Athene's Unholy Grail.

If you are set on playing Sona very aggressively early on, then you should just get Sheen as your 1st item, and keep it at that, since upgrading into Lich Bane only makes sense, if you are going to stack a lot more AP/Mpen, or you could again, just got for more offensive support items.

CDR boots are a preference, I guess, but you should also consider Sorcerer's Shoes as a good candidate, since you mostly seem to be playing champions that are all about quickly unloading their damage, and not poking over time, so the flat 15 Mpen would help you a lot when fighting people earlier into the game.

P.s. You should also try and get all of your runes to their tier 3 equivalents, as it will help out a lot in the early game.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thank you so much for taking the time to explain everything. I appreciate it tremendously.

I wasn't aware that Liandra's doesn't stack with their abilities. I knew it was a unique passive, but I guess I just assumed it meant with other items, not spells as well.

I always love Morello when I play an AP mid, for the mana regen on kills/ assists, so I can see using that on Nami and Karma, but I've always been slightly confused on how well Athene's is. Its usually why I avoid it because I don't understand how strong it actually is.

For Sona, getting just sheen makes sense too. So that way it allows me the spellblade passive while getting other items.

As for the boots, I do see that they are a good candidate, I just sometimes feel like my CDR is low. But I did some reading last night and I was looking up alternative ways to get CDR and made a new Item List that organized everything by CDR, AP, MP, etc. and I think that will help me out alot, because that is something I struggle with is.

And yeah, I've been working on getting the tier 3 runes, because when I first started, I didn't know about them so I was pretty late to finding out about them.

So I played a Zyra game and a few Karma games last night. I know you said Zyra is a better choice, because she's more aggresive, but I'm more comfortable with Karma. Do you think Karma has what it takes to help me as a carrying support or should I practice more with Zyra. Also, I thought I had Brand, but I guess I never bought him, so I'm trying to save up for him as well.

If you are more comfortable with Karma, then just keep playing her. It's honestly not the champion that will get you out of almost any bracket of play, but how well you play it, so if Karma is your gal, then go for it. Also, she can be built a bit more AP/Mpen heavy, if your team is lacking in damage. And you are welcome.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.
