Marilyn: The Flow of Combat

Estimates of her in-game parameters. Maximum value is 100.
  • Health 30
  • Attack 70
  • Spells 50
  • Difficulty 70

A character that can both use melee and ranged autoattacks. Her autoattacks can also inflict normal damage and magic damage. Very similar to Udyr, however she has an ultimate that changes depending on the weapon she uses. She has lots of tools but doesn't excel at anything, truly the character that can change depending on what your team needs during that exact moment.


Passive - Masters of Arms
Each time Marilyn switches weapons her attack speed and damage is increased for x seconds. This effect can stack up to 2 times. Switching weapons sets off a 2 second global cool-down.

Q - Amber Blade
Activation: On her next attack, Marilyn slashes at her target, making a normal attack and wounding her opponent which causes damage over time. In addition, Marilyn gains an attack damage buff that lasts x seconds.

Persistent effect: Marilyn's attack damage is increased. This weapon deals melee attack damage.

W - Rose Barrels
Activation: On her next attack, Marilyn shoots at her target, making a normal attack and additionally stunning the target for 1 second. This effect can only occur once every x seconds on the same target. In addition, Marilyn gains an attack speed buff that lasts x seconds.

Persistent effect: Marilyn's attack speed is increased. This weapon deals ranged attack damage. Range 500.

E - Ruby Gauntlets
Activation: Marilyn activates a stance that decreases incoming damage by 50% for x seconds.

Persistent effect: Every third attack, Marilyn strikes her enemy at a vital spot while healing herself. This weapon deals melee magic damage.

I did some checking and notice Garen has a similar ability.
Damage Reduction: 20 / 24 / 28 / 32 / 36 %
This character wasn't supposed to be as durable as other beefy chars. So the damage reduction shouldn't be more than 25% at maxed level. Further maybe have a similar trigger to Nocturne, like Read suggested, where an indicator pops around the character for 2 seconds and if you take damage during that time the ability activates.


Some notes: Many values are missing since I'm not intending to balance this champion. I just wanted to toy with the idea of a champion that utilizes many different attack forms similar to Udyr. To use all three of her activation buffs she needs some cool-down reduction.
So basically she could with some time switch through all her weapons to gain two buffs from her passive and all the weapon activation buffs for a small amount of time.


Ultimate - The First Strike
This ability does not affect a target you have attacked during the past 10 seconds. This ability changes depending on the weapon you are using. When using your ultimate champions you cannot target are highlighter with red.
  • Q Activated
    Needs to target a champion or minion. Marilyn dashes a small length and deals increased AoE damage around the champion she strikes.
  • W Activate
    Needs to target an area. Marilyn unleashes a barrage of gunshots that damage and cripple the targets on the area. They cannot move for a certain amount of time and suffer decreased movement speed after that.
  • E Activated
    Needs to target a champion on a small area. That champion suffers magic damage and is silenced for 5 seconds.

Three ultimates might seem like overpowered but they don't deal much damage expect the first one. It's up to the player how to use this ultimate fitting the situation. This ultimate can't be used as a finisher either so that's out of question unless you chase the enemy for 10 seconds.

Currently she uses mana for abilities but I think stamina system could work too. I also thought of a system similar to Karma where her ultimate changes the weapon she uses and the QWE change depending on that. But that seemed just a tad weird.

Regarding E, there needs to be some kind of downside to taking 50% damage from all sources. Just making it melee range isn't enough.

Well the effect isn't persistent. It only lasts for some seconds. It's a good way to shrug some damage but it can't be trusted that much. Maybe the damage resisted could scale with AP.

Yah generally % based decrease in damage is OP. 50% is like OMGROFLSTOMPOP. You could maybe make it to where she ignores the next physical attack. If succesful gain XYZ AS for XYZ seconds

Lets say Veigar comes in with 700 AP, sets off his ult, DFG, Dark Matter and Q. For the purposes of DFG, let's say you have around 2k health. With that combo, Veigar just did a flat 3900 damage to you, not reduced by MR. But wait! You just used your E, and he only does 1950, further reduced by whatever MR you have. Most tanks can't even tank that amount of damage, and you survived with > 500 health. Broken.

the E value would have to be reallllllly low for this champ not to be broken. no more than 2 seconds id say. if you want really valuable input id throw some numbers onto your abilities so people can tell you if there actually op or not.
