Yea honestly, I would get used to Akali before I devote hard earned IP to a rune set exclusively for her anyways; what if you end up not liking her?

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!

akali needs runes to play, with my rune setup, I can start out with both of her passives, I also don't recommend getting the long sword, doran's blade is better for her because you never really need the long sword unless you're building AD akali (which is a bad idea). I also recommend a hextech revolver before rylai's, the spell vamp keeps you alive and makes you a better 1v1 champ. I have a pretty extensive guide on how to play akali, you should check it out if you want to up you K/D ratio with her.

as for vayne, she's pretty different from akali, so you can't use the same playstyle. And Vayne has true damage so that makes her pretty powerful as it is.

Both champs require a set amount of skill. Akali requires being fed a whole hell of a lot more to become extremely effective. Vayne comes stock with "I'm going to whoop your ***" rims and fenders.

Akali imo has a few set rotations to use depending on a situation whereas Vayne can pretty much right click to win with a tumble here and there. The challange to Vayne is positioning whereas akali has a HUGE gap closer with her ulti Vayne needs to always be moving and avoiding whatever might come her way.

All in all I'd say getting a proper rune/mastery build as well as learning the skill set required to play Akali will get you to be dominant with her. Vayne just kinda has a stock OPness that makes her ******edly hard to counter when in the hands of the right player.

Vayne and akali are two completely different champs.Vayne is a carry and akali is an anti carry.Akali is not such a diffivult champ, she needs just to use your brain when you play with her.Runes are not mandatory especially in that lvl and akali can be played without runes and the 30 points for masteries. In my opinion long sword is not a bad choice, beacuse building a sword of the occult will benefit you a lot, since when it is fully stacked it gives 100 dmg and it increases your ms.So this combined with a hextech and a meja's can make akali a really difficult to deal with champ beacuse she has both ad and ap so the enemies should spent more gold in order to buy proper items.Last but not least it is very important to master last hitting asap, beacuse without it,it is almost inevitable to have a good game, unless you are roaming the whole time and you get tones of kills.

Alright let's see if I can get this straight.
You used to play Vayne but know you want to play Akali.
All you have to do is practice. o.o
I'm pretty sure what you are doing wrong is that you aren't farming enough, on your first trip back you should have at least 1200-1300 gold (for Hextech Revolver) and whatever you do don't max Crescent Slash first, that is just a big mistake with many new Akali players. They think the since Crescent Slash has an AOE it's better. In actuality Mark of the Assassin is better, this will be a great farming tool and harass. (Mark a minion with this skill when it's about 40% health and then auto-attack it, or just mark it at 10% health to kill it). Also, try scaring your opponent away by using your Twilight Shroud, by placing it down on their minions or yours they usually will back up because they're afraid you might hit them with the Mark of the Assassin+Auto Attack combo.

If you have anymore questiosn just look at my guide, I'm pretty sure it explains a lot that would help you out. (Also has a video by Redmercy, that I learned from when I started Akali.
