Why is Revive picked on Pantheon? I've never understood that strategy..

It's called planning. :)
A global ult means Pantheon can join a fight from anywhere in the map.
Revive is normally useless because unless the fight is right in your base, you won't be able to get back into the fight.
Pantheon's ult is also horrible for team fights if he's already nearby.
So, with Revive, he can participate, try to do as much damage as possible, and if he dies, instantly show back up with full health and a speed boost.
Ideally, you don't want to die at all, but realistically... You'll die at some point.

Oh, and a nontroll, try a cutlass, it changed my opinion of how pantheon needs to build nowadays. I still wish I could experience old pantheon before the changes. There were only a few champions whom I was mortally fearful of early game, those being urgot and pantheon.
