KARTHUS AND SORAKA. 'cuz you can fix other people's mistakes. Global damage and global heal are just too strong for solo-queue, where there isn't quite the same amount of coordination, and mistakes cost games. Even tho soraka's getting re-done soon.
Tryn is considered pubstomp for lower elos....But overall any tanky DPS champion who is strong in a solo lane; those types of champs are probably the best soloquers (assuming you know how to play them). Other solid picks are the tried and true champs like Annie, Malzahar, Ashe, and even Corki (although recently his nerfs have sunk him so it seems).
Why tanky DPS? Because they can give and take a beating.
The tried and true? Because they posses skill sets that come into play in team fights and require less maintenance to play...Save for maybe Ashe, she is an extreme late game champ.

In my experience you have to be a good jungler. solo Qers always think that they are the best ap carry or they are the best dps. So whats the point of picking an ap carry when your team has one. If you are the jungler you can feed your own baddies kills by ganking. thus boosting their ego and winning the game. be a jungler. or blitzcrank.. feed your team

Thanks for the amazing sigs Brynolf,JEFFY40HANDS, Katoki, and myself

I suppose re-worked is probably the better word for it, but the changes are pretty significant.

Right now, pantheon is amazing for solo queue. Can dominate a lane, has great damage and above-average survivability, and can split push well with his ultimate.
Pantheon can't really dominate a lane.
He has no sustain, and his burst isn't so strong. His scaling is bonus damage now, meaning he has to farm up a lot before he can do well.
Pantheon has also NEVER been known for split pushing. You would never want to waste your

Pantheon can do well in a lane; sustain isn't the absolute standard for judging lane dominance. Jax has no sustain, but he is still a beast in lane.
Pantheon can and can punish a champion for getting close to last hit, and he is strong against melee champions in lane, which most solo top champions are. He's especially good when your jungler comes to gank, because he can stun and then use his spear as a finisher.
Pantheon's ultimate doesn't mean he's #1 split pusher, but he has the option if he needs it. He can push a lane top and farm as long as he needs to, and he can be back at a fight whenever it starts.
A common ailment of solo top champions is that if one of your 4 non-top champions dies and you're stuck top, the enemy can take dragon with ease. With pantheon, he can push top (split push, in a sense), then he just has to venture into the river a little ways and he can show up at a dragon fight more easily than any other solo top champion without teleport. So, his ultimate isn't great for teleporting into split push scenarios, but it gives him leeway to farm and push without having to worry about being in position lest a fight breaks out.

If you learn how to play these champs in solo, you will be just fine.
