Frozen Mallet seems very viable, and shakes my confidence in the necessity of Trinity Force

Trinity force offers you more offensive power. You still get a slow effect, and the sheen proc seems golden, especially since his cooldowns look relatively short. Plus tri has some healthy stats.

I'll change my build a bit and get Brut.. seems like the CDR is just CORE

For this champ I'd actually go Frozen Mallet over Triforce. He does have his own slow, but it's on a medium CD. Taking FM will make sure he is always dealing bonus damage.

I'd go

Zerkers/Mercs
Phage
Ghostblade
Phage into FM
Black Cleaver or Blood Thirster
Additional damage item

Solid inexpensive build might make Talon less bursty. So you can supplement Black Cleaver for Phantom Dancer and endgame Infinite edge if you're doing well.

Depending on his AP ratios I might even throw a Hextech Gunblade on him.

basically this.

I think, as I mentioned on another thread, that FM > TF on him, since I think the bonus damage with his passive with 100% slow per hit with FM will turn out to be more than the bonus damage from 35% chance to slow and TF procs.

Thanks to TRUeLM, Plastictree, Scrax, Xiaowiriamu, foggy12, JahGFX, jhoijhoi, msrobinson, JEFFY40HANDS, Nyoike, MissMaw, and me :) for the sigs!

Frozen mallet is a must have. Makes his passive useful, Mercy (Innate): Talon deals more damage with his basic attacks to any target that is slowed, stunned, immobilized, suppressed or snared.

Eh... I wouldn't ever tell people FM is a must have on Talon before even playing him.

I'm 90% sure Trinity is going to be the better item in almost all applications.

CERTAINLY better in regards to damage, that much is out of the question.

If his CDs are low enough i go Trinity Force with him, if his CDs are low enough Metagolem.
If his passive is strong enough i even get Frozen Mallet over Warmogs, cuz Trinity doesnt proc slow every hit, so~(the slow on Trinity is ****ty anyway it should be a 100% proc with much less "slowstrength")
So 0815 Metagolem, even tough hes assassin, hes Meele, he uses AD and his spells doesnt seem that strong.

Getting more attack speed with both continue the Trinity force slow procs and increase your damage, although it you have Atma's, buying the FM in combo with Trinity might not be a bad idea.

The reason FM WILL be better is the fact you'll have 100% up-time on his passive. The reason TriForce WILL not be as good as FM for this champ is because Ghostblade's active will make up for the lack of MS and AS when you go into to assassinate your primary target (with your ulti running ofc). You'll stick to your target like glue, Triforce does have its merits on MOST other champs but keeping your passive up will give you THE most for your money. 25% chance to slow isn't bad but once you factor in dodge chance the rate of return for FM over Triforce should be more apparent and a helluva lot more reliable at least for Talon.

oh good point I completely forgot about his passive and was focusing on heavy burst. Yep now I'm convinced FM > Tri for this guy.

Lol...

I don't know how to say this without sounding rude so just imagine there is absolutely no emotion in my voice when I say this.

You're wrong.

Just wait for the release before you make statements like this. Triforce will almost without a doubt be the superior item, the passive's not going add enough damage to make Frozen Mallet this Godly 100% buy every game item like you're imagining.

Trinity Force will outshine FM in cost to effect, utility, and over all stats, and the 150% bonus procs will synergize with Talon's burst damage.

You don't have to believe me though, I'm not going to ramble on when it's clear you've made up your mind and are making statements as if you've been testing the champion at Riot for months and know his inner working inside and out.

If I'm going to be completely honest, I don't think I'll even be getting those items until mid or late game. I'm probably going to be building Ninja Tabi or Marc Tread's (You know, Marc twain's shoes?), Wriggle's, and Brutalizer, then get my Phage. Next, I'll finish Youmuu's, Triforce, and after that, Last Whisper and potentially a GA or an Infinity Edge. I'll be open minded about the potential options however, and Frozen Mallet is a... Potential... Option.

But really, to say that it will be better than "X option" because it will give you a damage increase based on a passive effect related to CC, when in team-fight's everyone is always CC'd anyway... Silly. Real silly.

Trinity force's bonus damage proc's are going to give you larger damage benefits, that are bursty (Which is better for his toolkit), not sustained and gradual, and, with enough attack speed you'll constantly have the slow applied to them regardless, so you won't be losing out on that damage like you are thinking you will.
