Anivia's burst is still one of the highest in the game and has the added utility to boot. Frostbite is a mean SoB when the target is chilled, meaning that even Frozen Mallet or Rylai's Crystal Scepter will allow double the damage. And her wall can secure a kill better than anything Brand has, when aimed properly, at least.

On top of that, once she's hit 6, she will not let you farm anymore. Damage, slow, more damage, stun, most damage, still slow, walled off, dead. Worst of all, it's almost impossible to get out without flash or anything like it. She just pops her ult whenever she wants, and everything else is easier from there.

Brand doesn't have anything like that. Nothing as reliable, at least, from what I can see. Damage does not trump utility.

One person with utility is easy to shut down. 4 are harder to stop. I don't look at the AP to be the one without utility; that's the AD carry's job. And even when they do, they're all tied to damage, so it still stands.

I can honestly see the logic behind the AP carry being the one with the most damage, but I still don't think that that determines the best AP caster or who the OP should pick between Anivia and Brand.

If you are low elo, get Anivia. Low elo teams will usually get aced trying to kill your egg.

That's not exactly a reason to choose a champ. It's more likely that they'll forget she HAS an egg and ignore you, or your own team will forget that you have an egg and leave you to die. Of course, that's acting under the assumption that the people you are playing with/against are bad.

They can't ignore you when you have Void Staff.

Both sides put up good points. But I am leaning towards Anivia right now cause has more potential to be a threat during team fights.

I meant ignored as in "Yay! We killed Anivia!" and then the egg has been forgotten.

Actually in the case of AP carry, damage generally does trump utility.

Exceptions are always made, and if a players is particularly good at a champion, then they can use the other champions to excellent effect, but there's a reason Brand is a top pick and ban in competitive play, where Shushei, Reginald, and pretty much every top AP player likes to get Brand. Not Anivia. Brand does so much damage.

"Threat" is a relative term. A good wall can be instant death to a player.

However a good player inversely knows when a good wall is coming, and won't let it happen 7-8 times out of ten.

Yet Brand just throws a giant combo of AoE bombs into the crowd and everything dies. I'd say that's a more realistic threat.

You can say that Anivia has more utility in her slows and her wall and such, or I can say that Brand has more damage and that's why he's better. That's why I originally wrote to get both, one may better suit your play-style.

But, I'm telling you point blank, in my opinion, Brand is the best AP carry in the game because his damage is the highest. And plenty of high Elo players would agree with that statement.

Edit; Also, Brand's harass in lane is amazing =_= The implication that Anivia easily shuts him down is silly.

I can agree with a lot of that. Maybe I just haven't seen any good Brand players. His pillar is so incredibly telegraphed, I don't even care about it. And an AoE bomb is just as easy to see coming as a good wall. You have to be just as good for both.

Also, I didn't say that Anivia could shut down Brand easily. Just that one person with utility is easier to shut down than 4.

Brand's AoE damage really isn't something to ignore. With all the widespread damage he deals, I can see it doing way more damage overall.

And I think that someone like Morgana makes a better AP carry, but we'll see how that statement stands after her upcoming nerfs.

TL;DR I agree with most of what you've said, and it's probably my inexperience with good Brand players showing. I still don't fully believe that damage trumps utility, but if there's enough of it, maybe it does. The best form of CC is death, after all.

Anivia's Ice Wall>Brand's single target stun....Both have similar skill set ups IMO. She can block escape routes, slow enemies, stun enemies, deal AoE damage and her passive is great for early laning....Brand deals loads of damage and has a single target stun. Both benefit from their enemies sticking together, but Anivia can keep them in her ulti with a well placed wall. From my experience Anivia is a bit harder to play well, but when she is played well it's OMG WTF PWND. Brand is just OMG PWND from the start, he doesn't get the WTF until late game...I'd say buy Anivia, not many champs can beat out her combination of utility and damage.
