It depends on the tank you are playing. For example, if I am tanking with Singed I would base my score on my assists and magic damage dealt. Or maybe Galio, I would base myself with the damage I have taken due to his ultimate.

And some tanks you can't really tell from your endgame, because with Alistar, you aren't going to be focused and you aren't going to be doing too much damage either.

Well, in a perfect world sure your carries can blow them up, but the grounds are not always equal, and there's a bazillion exceptions to every rule. Let's say your team is behind. You have to be really tanky to be able to fight a team that's ahead.

Also, there are carries like Vayne and Kogmaw who do the kinds of damage that can't be ignored. Against those champions, you're gonna need every defensive measure you can find, FoN, FH, Randuin's, Warmogg's, just be a super tank.

2-3 turret shots does not deal more damage than a farmed AD carry can deal with one attack end game. There are carries that can hit harder than 4-5 turret shots :P

The general idea is, a shield can absorb some pretty good damage. I know there are a lot of games in which I have seen Pantheon doing "Holy s***!!" kind of damage. But a shield like Shen's, with a quick cooldown and a nice damage absorption can take a fair amount of damage in a fight. Trust me, I know.

To refute Luther3000's comment, that "nobody will attack someone with a shield up", this is wrong. Of course people will attack someone with a shield up, maybe not as recklessly, but still attack. Another thing to think about is that you should usually use your shield during combat, not before it. A committed player will not stop his attack simply because you put a shield up.

Pantheon's not the kind of dmg I'm referring to. I'm referring to real damage. A fed carry, maybe Vayne or something.

However a shield's only good for 2-300 HP, and then it pops. Cho's ult gives him like 600 HP so what's the difference >:P

KDA is all that matters.

(Kills + Assists) / Deaths

As long as you're at 1.00 or greater, you're doing fine. If you're under 1.00, you need to work on your gameplay, even if you won.

Thanks to Jsta for the sig image.
