depends on what you want to make.

I would try playing around with brushes and smudging. They can really add some depth to an image once you know how to use them well.

www.brusheezy.com is where I get my brushes (most photosshop brushes will work on gimp)

Try adding some C4D's or smudges or lighting effects or something ^^

Nice... Never used Gimp mostly photoshop but work on some lighting... Good job :) Maybe make ball brighter and add some depth so it seems the ball is coming out of the background if you get what I mean.
