magic pen and armor pen are very universal reds.
mana regen or armor yellows are fantastic on most champions
ap/lvl, CDR, or mr/lvl blues (cdr are really expensive, tho).
AP Quints for sure if you play mostly AP. Other useful ones are ad, movement speed, armor pen, hp, and armor, but I'd start with AP.
In general, I think I'd go with magic pen reds, mana regen yellows, ap/lvl blues, and AP quints.
idk what kennen usually runs in yellows, though. I don't play him.
And as for your other thing on Amumu, I run magic pen reds, defense yellows, mr/lvl blues, and defense quints. I'd venture that would be similar for Rammus. No idea for mundo.

I usually take
Magic Pen Marks
Mana Regen/level Seals
AP/Level Glyphs
Flat AP Quints

Get mana regen per level seals. They pass flats at level 6.
Sig courtesy of GrandmasterD. Go get your own sig from them. :D
Well yea my bad, I use mana reg/5/level seals. Flat regen is just bad IMO and like said, they are beaten by per level ones at level 6.

Don't hate, it's too big a burden to bear.

Disagree.
1. Pre-6 is when mana regen is most useful. Mana/lvl is really only useful in the later parts of your laning phase, but by then, advantages are usually already beginning to show (save really slow games).
2. Once teamfights start to happen, you really just conserve your mana for those, then b. Mana regen is really not very relevant at that point.
3. Mana/lvl is really only useful for later parts of the laning phase. You should have blue buff quite often post 6 ESPECIALLY in lane.

1. No it's not. Most casters last-hit (or should be) with autoattacks and exchange very intermittent harass in the early levels. APs will try to zone their lane opponent or force them to recall in order to get to level 6 first. When you get your ultimate and a couple small AP items, that's when you really start expending your mana quickly. It's true that you should have blue buff when possible, but you can't have it up all the time, and often times you won't get every blue of the game. You either won't get an opportunity to get it, it'll be stolen or you'll die with it and give it up. In those cases, mp5/lvl seals come in handy, as well as all the downtime between buffs.
2. A lot of mages use poke spells to weaken the enemy team, and may expend mana for counter-initiation CC. It's quite easy for a prolonged stalemate to suck up a lot of your mana. If you don't harass before the fight, that

3. Some mages need the regen well past laning phase. Some casters like Anivia, Swain and Lux can be very mana starved without blue buff (which, I say again, is not always available). Mp5/lvl seals can help alleviate this weakness through all stages of the game. Some like AP Nidalee and Xerath will spend a ton of mana poking before team fights (and healing, in Nid's case). Some (actually for me, a lot) of casters don't get and mp5 items in their final build, and have to rely on runes/masteries and blue buff to keep them sustained. If a few seals can allow you to get an Hourglass instead of Morello's, it's well worth it.
I don't consider

I'd only use

and i am quite new when it comes to figuring out how to deck out a specific champion to become OP. so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
and on a side note, if anybody would like to give me some rune tips for tanks (dr mundo, rammus, amumu). i just started trying them out, and enjoy it alot.
TL;DR - Need Basic Rune Layout for AP Champions.
Thank you !
