Wow that's like....the best thing I've ever seen. Wanna have my babies?
@bryun: not bad. Did you use a water ripple filter?
Just the regular filter, and some other things. ^^
Any critiques?
I hope this advice works for both GIMP/PSCS5 (I don't know what you're using. If you were able to get PS or not)
For the Cait Sig:
-I think it looks alright. The filter overwhelms the photo a bit though.
-Text could be better, but I suck at text so I can't really explain what I mean and have it be entirely legit, if I was better at text though ;P. There are fonts out there that might fit the style of the sig more though.
-It's very simple, and considering you're just starting out (or I believe you are) that's a good thing. The best advice I can give is KEEP PRACTICING. I'm trying to create something everday when able. It's how I've gotten better. I'm still inconsistent some pieces I can't get right, but I need to keep working on it.
-My overall gripe as I mentioned is the filter, it just dominates the signature too much. If you used a duplicated layer try reducing the opacity of the layer you filtered.
-Apply a "Sharpen" filter, if it doesn't look good to you, then no need to keep it.
Hope this helps.

Thanks!
Regarding the font, I like it very simple like that for some reason. ^^
It's just a preference.
Will see if I can make it look better. :3
EDIT: Any better?

The gun looks better, the image is a little crisper too ^_^
Still not what you wanted though right? :(
That's my eighth signature so far, but I feel like my progression (My progression thread) isn't going too far as there's no wow factor yet. But maybe someday. ^^
(Oh, I have Photoshop now.)
WOOT PS ES GOOD. And what I want doesn't matter, what you want does. We both have different views on what is aestetically pleasing. I don't like the image you have to work with, but I can understand (rather think I understand) what you're going for.
I'm one to believe that the better the image you have to start with, the better the end result can be.
That isn't to say you can't turn **** into gold. But it's easier when the image "wants" you to make it more.
If I could stream I'd do it to show you what I mean.
But, let's see if I can help.
-Take your image, duplicate the layer.
-Now apply the ripple filter to the top image.
-Now take your eraser tool and find a soft brush, or one with the bristles kind of showing. (not a perfect circle)
-Set the opacity of the brush to 20-30% (top bar below your menu should have "opacity" and a percentage next to it.
-Erase the interior of Caitlyn (the top layer) until you see something you like. Repeat the process of erasing all around your image experimenting with it until you find it to your liking.
See how that works for ya.

You can share your screen with Skype :) That's how I've taught people how to use Photoshop when hey've asked me.
As for the Caitlyn sig, I don't like the border or how the gun becomes unfocused (unless that's the original artwork and not your doing).
