I'm closing this thread, so don't post on it. It's getting too personal for my liking.

Why would you not just build Will of the Ancients instead?

What Luther said.

Only reason to get gunblade is that you now heal on some slightly stronger auto-attacks when you E.

Thank you to jhoijhoi for the sig, and all the dividers in the guide.

The point is the total lack of sustain in the beginning, leaving many top champions more viable than Swain before he goes back to get a Hextech Revolver. The reason is that Vampiric Scepter is my starting item. It will give you quite good sustain until you first go back. Besides, Hextech Gunblade's active also deals magic damage, and gives you even more CC.

Well, that's why I don't just take Will of the Ancients, even though that's good too.

(Never thought about building Swain with a Bilgewater Cutlass? ;) His skin kind of tells me it's a good idea sometimes.)

You're crazy.

And that argument applies to any champion in the game.

Also, you start with health potions for sustain.

Luther, health potions will hardly give you anywhere near the sustain you will get from Vampiric Scepter. I've tried it out, it's hardly relevant where your damage come from (autoattacks or abilities) as long as you can manage them both. And Bilgewater Cutlass early gives you pretty good kiting potential too.

Now try it :D A little unorthodox perhaps, but it's still a fact that it works for sustain.

How does cutlass give you any kiting potential at all?

It has a slow... but that's it. The slow is pitiful range too.
