Go atmog Pantheon with an Infinity Edge (a must on Pantheon) and maybe a Wriggles early on. That's the build I use, and I have yet to lose top (or a ranked game) as Pantheon

Bruiser build works extremely well. Early game has the ability to 1v1 any hero (top or mid). His spears damage stacks pretty good per level and works very well with poking. His combo is easy to land, but his ult is very hard to land successfully and is much easier to use as an escape method or to trap/push the enemy.
