If you've been on the internet for more than five minutes chances are you've run into a troll, that one person who seems to have the opposite opinion of everyone else and isn't scared to let you know it. With the raising awareness of bullying, both in person and online, legislatures in Arizona have passed a bill that would make trolling both illegal and punishable by a fine up to $2,500 and/or six months in prison.

Lawmakers believe that the Internet has become a place where users are free to run around and do and say as they please without the fear of any major consequence from the government. After all, putting my hatred for the latest episode of Game Of Thrones on the web even though the rest of the world sees it as pure televised awesomeness is within my constitutional rights isn't? The Internet is all about freedom of speech right?

Not so much anymore. The proposed bill would extend the reach of telephone harrassment laws and punish those who post anything that the state deems offensive. As of the time of this article, the bill is in the governor's office waiting to be passed or vetoed.

Quoted:
>It is unlawful for any person, with intent to terrify, intimidate, threaten, harass, annoy or offend, to use ANY ELECTRONIC OR DIGITAL DEVICE and use any obscene, lewd or profane language or suggest any lewd or lascivious act, or threaten to inflict physical harm to the person or property of any person. It is also unlawful to otherwise disturb by repeated anonymous ELECTRONIC OR DIGITAL COMMUNICATIONS the peace, quiet or right of privacy of any person at the place where the COMMUNICATIONS were received.

This can't possibly go wrong and will definitely solve many of the online bullying cases involving 'trolls'.

Arizona lawmakers are trolling. Fine em and throw em in jail for trolling the internet. :V

Say goodbye to freedom of speech my fellow Americans.

Also, note the fine print

The first amendment prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

That quote from the bill would make everything in the internet unlawful. No matter what you write there will always be someone who is annoyed by it. It would also make pornography illegal. I'm pretty sure they can't legally do that, that bill will never pass.

EDIT: Also, if the bill is posted on the internet then whoever wrote it will go to jail, as the bill annoys a lot of people and according to that bill it is illegal.
