Then why not just use Rod of Ages instead of Tear of the Goddess? It gives you with catalyst the protector great sustain aswell and more defence at the same time.

And if you want, that Archangel's Staff is effective, you should consider Rod of Ages aswell.

RoA gives more sustain, AA Staff gives more damage. Idk, really depends on how the match is going. An early tear is just a fast way to get alot of mana. Either is viable.

But really....Magwhick isn't some sort of hidden gem. Nor is it an optimal solo top...Sure for fun why not, then your enemy builds merc treads and wit's end....Then they're laughing at you.

TT is where anything and everything works, which is why I don't think it means anything, simply because 3v3 is impossible to balance. Rather nearly impossible. But if you have fun that's all that matters

Eh, just have 2 tanks and a burst-y champ, make sure all 3 have cc, and get on teamspeak with each other, and you win. Thats why i play TT alot lol, easier to win and count less on other people.
