Oh, and to the person that said buy a Phantom Dancer... no, just no. If you want to build attack speed then Nashor's Tooth is the way to go. It gives you AP, CDR, and only 5% less AS than a PD. The crit chance from PD is almost a complete waste and should never be used on an AP caster.

Also, side note, the reason why Orianna gets outclassed by other mids, again there is math to prove that statement, is that people build her straight AP, and when comparing a straight AP Orianna to a staight AP *Insert ANY other AP based mid champion here* then you do sub par damage overall. Building CDR, MS and getting special items like the Lich Bane are what make her shine and stand out and above the rest of those casters.

Also, the Lich Bane makes it so that you are a serious threat to turrets as well as the champions that have stacked magic resist against you. By no means should this be removed, that is just a bad idea all around.
{/Rant}

P.S. St0rmaker hurt my feelings with his comment that was geared towards the other guides.... :P

I have no idea how no one has mentioned this yet:

Armor pen marks:
  • Orianna's attack damage caps at 90 in this build
  • Even if you take Lich Bane's passive into account, that is your second to last buy and you aren't taking advantage of it for most of the game which makes these runes ridiculous
  • Clockwork Windup scales off of AP and inflicts magic damage. It also ends up doing exponentially more damage than the AD caused by your attack attack. Magic pen marks would serve Orianna much better

Armor Seals:
  • Just how many AD champs are you facing mid? The current meta doesn't call for you to be playing against an AD champion often so I seriously don't understand why you would need armor other than to deal with ganks, and if the enemy jungler is ganking you often you can just level up Command: Protect to level 2 and then when you have the ball you have more armor than the seals grant you
  • If you want some sort of resistance, wouldn't you want magic resist since the main champion you are likely to be laning against is AP based and won't be hitting you often with anything other than their spells?

Boots upgrade:
  • You have over 10,000 gold that you spend before you upgrade to boots 2...
  • I don't care how much damage you can do with all of that AP, if you show up late to the fight because of how slow you are then all of that AP was a waste
  • Movement quints don't negate the previous statement
  • Pick a single choice in boots for your primary build and explain in the guide the situational circumstances in which you would buy the different boots. I know how to play her and my mind boggled a bit when I saw those. I would feel bad for a novice that didn't know any better actually trying to buy them all
  • Choosing a specific boot option will also cause the stats sheet to be closer to correct when showing your end game stats. It currently shows you ending with 220 AP which is so far from correct it is scary

Okay, now that I have all of that out of the way:

I actually did some extensive math and Will of the Ancients actually is better on Orianna than Rod of Ages, but if you are buying the Rod for sustainability then Rylai's Crystal Scepter actually is a better option. Think about it, Will of the Ancients actually regens more HP than the Rod's passive and if you have blue buff AND Athene's Unholy Grail you are not going to have ANY issues with sustain. Rylai's 15% slow is pathetic by itself, but when it is combined with Command: Dissonance you can cause a 55% slow if you actually hit the target initially with your W. You then get the larger Health Pool which can easily be refreshed by the Will of the Ancients. Sure, Rod of Ages grants you 130 more HP at the end of the 20 minute mature period, but everything else on it becomes a waste as soon as you hit level 18... The 15% slow serves to be much more valuable at this point in my opinion.

Granted, having both of those items would make it so that you wouldn't have room for the Guardian Angel but in all reality, how often do we get that far into late game to where it actually gets bought?

Also, to keep from getting troll voted you should turn on "Vote to Comment" so that no one can downvote you without giving a reason. I however didn't vote because I don't vote on other Ori guides. I do however lend advice so that you can make your guide as good as possible. The way I see it, if you like playing Orianna this way then there are others out there that do as well and this guide is written for those people :) That's why even though I don't like support Ori, I lend advice to those guides as well.

So yeah... sorry about the response being so long but those are just my notes from seeing the cheat sheet and glancing at your comment section... If you found this helpful then let me know in a PM and I'll be happy to help you out with the rest of your guide. Just ask and you shall receive. If you hate the advice I've given... well that's on you I guess but there isn't a single thing mentioned above that I don't back 100%.

Keep on keeping on and I hope I helped.

that's why I build the grail first is so that I can start farming early. I have about 150 CS when everyone else has 80~100. I don't like having a Rylai's on her because I build the Rod of Ages second, and it's fully charged before anything too heavy happens. Considering that it doesn't take long to get the same amount of HP from a RoA as it does from a Rylai's, and it only gets stronger until its HP stats are stronger than Rylai's, I prefer it on Orianna. The extra mana allows me to play a lot more offensively and defensively.

In response to staying in the lane...I agree with this, but only to a certain extent. I detest leaving my lane. As soon as I do, it gets pushed. I always carry 2~4 wards on me so that I can have a long time to lane, and usually whenever I recall I have about 1.5~2.5k gold on me. I completely understand your side of the argument; I honestly think our playstyles are different XD. Thanks for reading btw :D

1) The reason you get Rylai's is not for the slow. I concede this point.
2) You don't need this mana if you play somewhat conservatively.
3) It has to be fully charged. That's the problem. It's still a lot of AP, yea, but the reason I prefer Rylai's is because you can buy the Giant's Belt and skip all the rest of it to go straight for your Rabadon's. You get a bunch more AP a lot faster this route.
4) If you want to lane until level 15 or so, be my guest. Orianna's strength with the Grail is in the mid-game teamfights that let her snowball into late game. What is awesome about her is how easy to is to pick up minion waves. Q + W. As for farming, if you have around 160 cs by 20 min you're set for the rest of the game because you can stick with your team and then steal ALL of the creeps whenever you go into lane (not to mention the kills). Just don't stay IN the lane because that's rarely a good idea past level 11 or so.

This should clarify my argument. Regardless, I do not want to get into a larger one so this will be my last post. Good luck on your guide; it was a pleasure to read.

In response to RoA
You have a built in slow.
It gives more mana.
It gives the same amount of AP as a Rylai's would when fully charged.
It gives you laning potential for a really long amount of time.

The guide's being edited as I've been experimenting all day with some things, and I think I've found an even better solution to the item build/some other odds and ends.

I personally dislike RoA on Ori. In fact, I hate it on Ori: if you ever need to tap into the health regen from catalyst you're doing something wrong. The burst protection is nice in teamfights, but because the regen is so negligible the individual components just are not worth it and leave your build in a dry spell for 3000 gold (around 1/5 of the game). Hence I recommend Rylai's because you can build a Giant's Belt for a little over 1000 gold and get that burst protection you need, and then move on to your ESSENTIAL Rabadon's Deathcap. Never forget how important Rabadon's is to Orianna's DPS - you want it as soon as you've fixed Orianna's inherent problems as a squishy, mana-hungry caster. And for altering your playstyle without RoA, just don't spam your W as often to move around the map. You can still use Q all you want, just keep an eye on your mana bar. Pretty simple.

Although I think RoA is an inherent problem with your build I will +1 this guide because of the awesome hypothetical situations you added. I think this is a more useful guide than any of the current top ones.

Firstly, I'm only judging you on the build, because that is all I've time to look at.
1. Cooldowns on items are UNIQUE passive, so your boots are a waste! Get the magic boots.
2. Forget Rod of Ages on Orianna. Its a waste of an item. She can kill very quickly with enough cooldown and also shouldn't be in a position to take much damage anyway.
3. Get a Phantom dancer! You get both speed increase and also attack speed which Orianna can utilise in team fights when she is not being focused.
4. Forget your sheen and lich bane, instead focus on pure ap and attack speed if you can!!
I love the unholy chalice thingy on Orianna. Since I've been using that item I can get multi kills in team fights quite easy.

I think some things could be more extended, such as item justification (I dislike WOTA on Orianna, have tried it a couple of times and meh). However, you do mention team interaction, which is something the top Orianna guides don't and has always stricken me as odd. She's just too good with initiators like Wukong, or [[Amumu]: just get E on them, let them go in and do their ulti, then ulti their faces again :D

All in all, if you have time I'd recommend including some images and give team interaction advice (you often recommend ulti'ing against just 1 person, this is not always advisable). Also, the Holy Grail is on the Wiki now, you can put it on the items ;)

lol I've seen many the Ori player, and as snooty as I feel saying it, none are as good as the way I play her. I wasn't kidding about the quadra kills. When I see the enemy Ori not checking bushes with Q or using W/R on nobody, it sort of bugs me. It's the item build that really drove me to make/post this build. Max CDR (+40%) at the end of this build is just amazing on Orianna. Complete domination. <3
