Actually AS does help your passive. It speeds up the AA animation and allows you to snare multiple targets more quickly. Also helps clear time a decent amount.
Not saying they're mandatory, but they work pretty dang well on him.
A gp10 setup could also work I'm sure. Naut's OP CC doesn't have to be runed for anyway.
Personally I use a setup which is fairly similar to Nickname's proposed setup, though I don't think I've ever build Mallet (or trinity, for that matter) on naut.

It actually helps your passive, it helps you to proc it as both your attack speed and attack animation is ****. It helps you in ganks as well, having that 1 extra hit may be crucial. No reason to take anything else than AS marks (I mained Naut jungle for like 2 months).
seriously? not a single person says jax? jax is the best jungler ive ever played O.o...he can roll in jungle, solo baron, he is a gank monster, ive had so many games where i got over 20 kills without dieing once. he has a gap closer for fast ganks, a shield for accidents, a stun for escapers, a tank mode from his ult, and a burst from his w. wtf else do u need? i can usually shield+jump>stun>theyre dead before the stun is over...

How is that inherently better in any way shape or form? I'm getting 5.3 GP10, and clearing jungle just fine.
You are only getting 15% AS, like 6 more armor, and 4.5% move speed. 5.3 GP10 is really strong, you can make a case for 15% AS / 6 armor and 4.5% move speed being better, but it's fairly subjective. I prefer the GP10 right now for my current style of Nautilus play. And as a tank jungler, I never plan my build out too much before game.
The reason I do this build is quite simple. I ward EVERYTHING. A million times. Once I have 2 GP10's I generally buy two wards each base, and once I have my third I start buying five wards every base and pick up an Oracles. I still get gear bit by bit, that's the kind of absurd gold generation I'm getting.
Also since I run either a 0/15/15 or a 0/17/13 in masteries, I actually start the game with 7.3 GP10.

I am bias, but Kayle jungle is pretty good. Her first clear is somewhat comparable to Lee Sin but she can carry games so hard if she gets a kill early on. And even if she doesn't it's good to have her there for the utility.

If a jungler can jungle naked(runeless), why not maximize your gold gain in case you get behind instead?
It's a solid build, (resists, HP, ect) and you don't really need any AP as Naut.
