Welcome to Offtopic EvilNinja. Either or, the fighting did get out of hand and kind of stupid at one point in time in this thread. People have different perspectives on how they enjoy their role playing. The funny thing is that RP does help in the fields of actings and writing to some degree. Sure, it can be childish, but sometimes, just dropping the whole "I GOTTO BE SRS COOL" act can ultimately lead you into getting lost in some quality fiction. Some people aren't good at RP, sure, but for those that are, it's enjoyable for those participating in the rp and those reading along. It can be done both through DnD, forums, ect. As long as the people doing it (no sex) are both good, then who can complain?

So no one else likes to rub warm grape jelly all over their significant other, and make horrible shrieking noises, while squirming all over the floor, pretending you have tentacles?
I don't have to pretend that I have tentacles.

i never said there's anything wrong with it, some childish things are fun as well. What I'm saying is that it's not something you can qualify as mature and you don't need a mature community for it, you just need someone who knows how to write.
I coud go into a huge argument with you to explain teh various reasons why role-playing is considered mature. But I will not, instead:
Role Playing: to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), especially in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction
Role Playing can be both mature, and immature depending on what you are going for. To define role playing itself as immature, marks out your stubbornest and one-sided view of the world. There are plenty of mature communities who role play and there are plenty who do not. In fact, I used to be in one such mature community. You see, role playing is just like games. It is a way to become someone or something else for a period of time so as to escape the mind-numbing world we live in. You play games do you not, do you consider games to be immature? For if you do, you would be defining yourself as such.
I am not going to bother continuing, I just hate people who proclaim things such as this. "Maturity" is based on what society believes to be respectable, slapping a mature or not mature mark on something just deems you as someone who has yet to understand such things.

thanks Hogopogo for the banner :D

Canoas and Dufftime, I'm not looking to make enemies but this seems like an argument that spans outside of this thread. I respect both of you for upholding these opinions of yours though, each of you has a different idea and that is completely awesome.
watatool :P
That has got to be the most non-aggressive post I've seen in a situation like this.
"I walked up to her big butt and asked her *** butt what." - Lil Wayne, lyrical genius
"I can't decide where I stand on abortion, on one hand it is killing children, on the other it gives women a choice." - ???

I do still have fun writing up stories with other people in the writing forums, I'm not saying that it is less fun, but Tosahbi is right. It was those improvisation and artistic sketches of mystical worlds and items that would be constantly changed by eraser marks and led sheddings. I have never been part of a DnD group myself though even though I've dreamed of getting the friends together to do it, even online I've had trouble figuring out just how to use it.

Still how about this is a thread for Roleplaying in general, rather than just online RP forums. I admit I have LARPed before and that was insanely fun and nerdy at the same time, each person has at least some fun with Roleplaying if they give it a try.
