@OTG: Last Whisper + Zhonya's Hourglass sounds like a terrible combo if you ask me. Maybe you could get away with Gunblade + LW, but the more AP you build, the less that LW is going to do.
Unless he somehow scales off of AP but deals all physical damage, then I suppose it could work (still think GA > ZH tho). I haven't seen the supposed changes that you're referring to.

I don't have any information on what changes they're making to Varus to warrant any hybrid build, I mean sure the Ult scales nicely off AP but I'm kinda meh about Blight.
If I were to go for a hybrid I think I'd drop LW and go for a Nashor's instead, maybe a Rageblade... Not much in the options department for a true Hybrid to start with, the question is how viable something like this is gonna be. The ult would hit like a rock, other than that it comes down to player skill.

If I'd have to build AP to him, I'd go for item's like Nashor's Tooth or Malady probs for attack speed. Blighted Quiver would be the key to victory.
