I really enjoy Varus, he is an awesome ad carry in the actual meta.

Even if your guide isn't fresh (telling me that you don't chech messages often), i will make a constructive comment.

Your idea was great at start, AP Varus is viable, tested and confirmed. Moreover, i always feel like a trololol and i'm so laughing reading raging comments IG xD.

May i give you some ideas ?
  • Surge : okay, i still prefer Exhaust or Ignite, way more useful in my opinion, especially early.
  • Berserker's greaves are good for start, but mid game, after Madred's, Malady, you don't need it. Sorcerer boots are way more effective.
  • Wit's End is sooooo good, you want it early. Before Madred i think, after Malady. A Nashor's Tooth is really nice for the CDR too.

Keep it up, it's exotic, and works pretty good.

Edit : For all saying it's too squichy, at the first CC you are dead, bla bla bla, that's not false, sure. But the most part of AP Carrys and AD Carrys are really squichy, and i never saw a tanky Ashe anyway. Just sayin', a defensive item can be nice, but if the enemy team can CC you easily, you need to work on your placement, not on your build. Just had to be said.

This buils is legit as it gets... my final game build was

zhonyas-gunblade-t2boots-nashers-rylas (brain fart on last item)

had 491 ap. my stacks were doign 45% of their hp. atkspeed was 2.1... this build just wrecked .. early game is kinda weak but you can lasthit like a boss. ended the game at 45mins with 275 creep.. had 140 by 20minutes however. plays very well with a soraka.

I read this yesterday and i spent a day with AP Varus today.

To be honest, the dmg output was real stuff. real painful stuff.

However, as someone had mentioned, it is too squishy. Once any cc dropped on you and enemies start piling up nearby, ultimate or flash will not help much.

Another thing is Deathcap might be optional in this case.
I play more than 10 games with it and found that deathcap is not essential for it.
Instead, Malady, Madred, Wits End, these items are the real business you should get into.

Overall i would say its a good guide and I value AP Varus more than AD Varus.

Looking forward for more AP Varus idea coming up.

Hey,

I really liked the idea of AP Varus and have played it for about ten games in a row now (getting constantly flamed in every game by my team mates until I start racking up kills, then keep getting flamed for my "****ty build" lol).

I agree with some of the above posters, and changed the item build and order a bit. I start like you with rushing Malady and then T2 boots, after that I get Stinger for the AS instead of rushing Madred's and build it into Nashor's Tooth, after that I build Deathfire Grasp to cap my CDR and boost AP. I find this to be more cost efficent and faster to build before I can get some decent farm up. I also find that DFG active early is more useful than early Madred's since opponents haven't really started stacking that much hp just yet and it gives you an awesome burst combo with DFG->Surge->auto->R->auto->E->auto->Q.

After this I take Needlessly Large Rod and Recurve Bow and build into Rabadon's Deathcap and finally Madred's Bloodrazor. I think it's better to get both the AS and the AP from the basic items before assembling either Deathcap or Madred's since the AP Varus build both relies on AP and AS and it's more efficent to get them both before building into either finished item.

Before assembling Deathcap and Madred's this build would've totalled to 10730 gold, giving 165% AS, 250 AP, capping CDR at 40% and giving you the active of DFG (and 10 mana regen...). =)

Compare this to where you would be in your build, you would have just gotten enough money to buy the Needlessly Large Rod for Deathcap, having spent a total of 10380 (the difference can even have been removed from the GP10 of Kage's Lucky Pick); having you at 147% AS and 198 AP with max stacked Guinsoo's (without stacks that's 115% AS and 150 AP), 75 AD and shredding 4% hp with Madred's per hit (and 25 armor...). =)

So, in comparison, you'd get an additional 100 AP and 50% AS; you get the max 40% CDR instead of 75 AD and 25 armor+the stacking AS/AP of Guinsoo's; and you get the DFG active which I think is superior at this point to Madred's 4% shred, since it's instant and obliterates a target faster.

Let me know what you think of this explanation of item choices :)

To top off the build you could replace Malady with a Guardian Angel for survivability, Rylai's Crystal Scepter for added DPS/CC/survival or Void Staff if the opponents have started to stack MR by this time.

Thanks again for a very nice guide which made it really, really fun to play Varus and to see all the flames in team chat :D Haters are welcome!

Three words: Comment. To. Vote.

It's more interesting to see the reactions of the people who voted and why then to just see the % like/dislike ratio change for that first few weeks. Judging from the comments though you got lucky and people actually stopped to comment (and no wonder, it's an interesting idea with a lot of strong opinions on both sides and then that group of people in the middle like me).

I personally upvoted it, mainly because it sounds like so much fun, and partially because I'm starting to think it's viable, at least in normal games (don't expect me to entrust my ELO to a deathcap on an [traditionally] AD carry just yet though). I'd have to play a few games with him, but the numbers seem solid enough.

What I'm most worried about is getting to that scary damage in the first place. Sure the build looks pretty good on paper, and the numbers ARE scary when put in percentages and that 3 shot -> enemy liquefied kinda scenario, but what about on your path TO that effectiveness? Honestly your build looks like You'd be hitting like Teemo does early, except without the same kiting/escape ability and with no drugs (gotta love dem shrooms). Rageblade seems somewhat questionable, and could probably be replaced with Nashor's Tooth for just 400 gold more (sounds a lot more effective as well). Never been a huge fan of that item, but then again I've never been a huge fan of on-hit AP characters either, but you never know, could work. Anyways, keep it up, I'd love to see some actual post-game summaries and some work put into those empty sections. I know the guide isn't finished yet, but here's hoping it gets there, and that it actually works. Cheers!

I'm still new around here but don't you need some MRP to get more damage out of your stacks?

Or is it not that important?

I do like the idea behind the build, typically since AD seems to do less in late game with all the armour, hence my question.
