There are many more than you think, and they definitely fill a niche that other mids cannot occupy. Karma, Morgana, and zilean all gradually lose their killing potential as the game progresses, but their utility never decreases. Ap zilean mid has possibly the most dominant early game of any ap mid in the game. He is practically gauranteed a kill at level 3, or level 5 at the latest. His burst at level 9 is second to none. It's true you're slightly team reliant as the game goes on, which is why I would not necessarily recommend him in solo queue, except under certain circumstances: 1. You play a shitload of ap zilean mid 2. Your opponents pick someone that you can crush mid (gragas, karthus, morgana, a few others) He's definitely underrated, and I run him often in ranked teams when I'm looking to mix it up.[/quote]
