Im wondering since as of late i noticed alot supports not even going for ps and just going right for sight stone. I seen alot of the lcs supports not even ever build it they build kindlegem into sr and never get ps at all.

That's because health> mana and hp regen on squishy supports AND on aggressive supports that tend to go all in, especially when its kindlegem vs philo stone. Why get mana and hp regen when you can get hp and cdr?
Also the quicker you get ruby sight stone and the quicker you start placing ghost wards the more cost effective it gets.

competitive support play is very different than solo queue. I think in soloqueue you want to have as much effectiveness as possible. So building 1 or 2 g/10 is really good in solo queue. In competitive play I think they're more about vision and vision denial. So I would buy Philo stone pretty often in solo queue. Some champions like Alistar or Leona I think it's better to build straight Sightstone and skip g/10, but a lot of ranged supports I would build it.

I always force sightstone first, even if I just get a ruby and wards without getting anything done. I'd rather have the hp to position myself comfortably between my adc and the opposition to be able to zone/harass/provoke anyway. The extra HP versus a support that went philo allows me to play more aggressively anyway.
Thank you Tsuki for the sig!

Usually you get it only when you're preparing to buy a gp5 item.

Sightstone is a GP10 item. Free wards allows you to spend more of your money elsewhere during laning phase.

Building Philo is still fine. Especially if you know that you're going to have to sit on it for quite a while (perhaps because you have to build another item before Shurelya's/Mikael's), it's nice to get that bit of extra cash for holding Philo. But you should probably be rushing Sightstone first, regardless.

As for what pro players are doing in LCS... Full premade 5v5 gameplay isn't quite the same as solo queue. I assume that the (mana) sustain provided by Philo is less important to them than the CDR and HP from Kindlegem, probably because they're just better at managing their mana pools than us lowly mortal. Personally, I find the MP5 on Philo extremely useful on a lot of supports, and both its upgrades very useful, so I doubt I'm going to stop picking it up.

lemonnation had a really nice blog post about what to build as a support in solo queue

essentially he recommends always going for double GP10 every game in solo queue and going for big aura items as opposed to blowing all of your money on wards and oracle because solo queue is all about teamfights

at higher ELOs the mid lane roams more and the jungler ganks more meaning that vision takes priority and that's when you'll see supports rush sightstone or start with only consumables or only ever have mobi boots + philo + ruby sightstone for the entire game

but at lower elos (read: low/mid plat and below) you can get away with splurging a bit on GP10s for late game insurance

think about it this way: a gold V support can try to mimic all the competitive supports - he'll start with 2 pinks and 3 greens and a pot, get 2 pinks every back, rush ruby sightstone, buy oracles 4 times in a 30 minute game, and dominate vision - and he still might lose the game juse because EVEN THOUGH the enemy team has way less sight, the enemy support has a shurelya's and a locket and you're just straight up losing teamfights

TL;DR - you can afford to buy more GP10s at lower level games but the higher ELO you are, the more sacrifices you need to make as a support

I have a very different philosophy from all this, but Jebus said it right.

Meh, I still feel like I'm not doing my job if I haven't counter warded and if I only have like 2 wards on the map lol
Thanks to GrandmasterD for the sig!
