I have never used smart cast, is it something you would recommend?
And also, if I smart cast a lock-on spell will it hit the one my cursor is hovering over?

If you've never played with smartcast, just try it for a game or two. It makes everything faster.

As for your second question, the answer is yes.

Alot of Pros still play without smartcast. Others play certain champions with different keybindings and a mix of normal cast and smartcast.

Honestly, if you played League long enough and actually know some of the ranges you can just smartcast everything.
Even playing new champs is no problem, tho you do not know the range, smartcast is still faster

I guess it depends.

I steer away from it because then I can "prime" my skills whenever I am in danger of being ganked. That way, the field is up and I can aim without having the target there, so if the target does come around, my escape is a click away and I can take actions more quickly than when I have to press the button aim the skill and click.

I would highly recommend smart cast, but make sure you have range indicators on.

There are basically 2 ways you have to go about using it that's different from standard casting.

Targeted abilities ("lock-on") Bouncing Blades - Hold down the key, hover over the enemy champion, release the key.

Skillshots - Volley - Hold down the key, aim shot, release the key.

It seems like more work, but once you get the hang of it, it's really a lot faster (and more natural, I think) than clicking the mouse button. Try it out.

I AM NOT AFFECTED BY ELOHELL. NOOBS AND TROLLS NEVER RUIN MY RANKED GAMES.
I DON'T GET STUCK AND I NEVER GET ONLY 2LP FOR A WIN.

I AM UNRANKED.

I used to not use smarcast but now I use it a ton. Just think of it : every spell you use will take 1 less click

Let's say you chose Leblanc, who needs to chain her spells extremely quickly to burst before the opponent can do something or escape or w/e and so that you can get out of danger as fast as possible

You will be able to just keep your mouse on the target and mash your skill buttons
If not you have to click and make sure you target them with each skill, making your full combo longer
Also it will be slower to react with normal cast

I use a mix of smartcast and normal cast
I mainly use normal cast on ultimates that I really can't risk missing and traps
Also using normal cast on ultimates can be helpful because with smartcast if you misclick R your ult is gone

New players shouldn't do it but I really encourage doing so once you know your champs.

Have been doing it for a long time, doubt if I could play without it :P

I was like WHY ARENT MY SPELLS GOING OFF

Always use smartcast even if you're new, the faster you master it the faster you'll get better. Also doesn't take that long to master it.
