I think it's a bit silly to complain about grinding in pokemon while we all sit on a League of Legends forum. The entirety of climbing the elo ladder is grinding as well, and League definitely wastes more time than Pokemon.

It might feel more rewarding but its still a waste of time unless you are professional. Also, all video games are a waste of time, as stated before.

Well, not quite.

The difference between grinding in Pokemon and grinding in LoL are different in nature.

With grinding in Pokemon, your Pokemon grow stronger as a side-effect of fighting. In LoL, this is not necessarily true. You can play for a year and still be just as **** as you were a year ago. A Bronzie might grind for a year and still end up in Bronze. But with Pokemon, this is impossible. I could easily just level up a Pokemon to 100 and just Ember the E4 to death and I could only lose to the E4 if I intentionally did so.

Also, some people don't even have to grind tiers because they just consistently win their games and skip tiers.

Pokemon doesn't take skill to advance the campaign, LoL does to advance tiers.

It's also a different mindset and mentality towards grinding in each game. Pokemon is the weirdest game in Japan/America because normally we don't like grinding in our games at all (That's Korea's thing!) yet, almost all pokemon fans (The serious gamer ones, not kids) actually enjoy the grind. Most of them actually make up other ways to grind within the game.

"Serious Pokemon players" grind nearly everything in the game and enjoy doing it because it results in badass pokemon. All they care about is the progression and perfect numbers of their team, which justifies the grind.

Gamefreak realized that was the grind that the players want and eliminated the single player grind by making it easy as ****.

Pokemon is easy.

It's a given fact.

However, that doesn't change anything about the perception of many towards it. It just appeals to a different audience. Not everyone looks for tryhard good plot good music good challenge good everything games. You can't just say "this game is too easy" and instantly claim the series is a bad one / waste of time.

I would actually disagree with both sentiments here(Responding to everything on the page just quoted OTG cuz). Wasting time is based on perception of the player. I play games so that I have something to do with my friends. I grind because I find it fun (both pokemon and LoL have their merits). I would call neither a waste of my time as I would have used my time for something better if I really wanted too, but I found the games more important. I play both pokemon and Lol because they are fun. As games both achieve the goal I intend out of them. I don't see why it should matter at all if one game is "easier" than another as long as its fun to play.

Hahaha, Toshabi made this exact argument earlier in this thread and then chickened out(assuming he did) when I posted a long refutation.
You'd also do good to read this one through:

Oh, but there's a significant difference between competitive multiplayer games and easy singleplayer TBS games.

The only thing you really have to "grind" in competitive multiplayer games is your own skill.
While in TBS games like Pokemon where there are endlessly spawning enemies you can't rely on your own skill. You HAVE to level things up to progress.

Then there's the even larger issue of the overall difficulty level. In competitive multiplayer games you'll lose a LOT more than in the great majority of singleplayer games. And you have to deal with constantly adapting and intelligent (for the most part..) enemies.
Singleplayer games like Pokemon REAALLY doesn't wanna alienate their players and purposefully keeps the game incredibly easy. I'm pretty sure I can win any fight in the game by spamming one button if I just have a really strong Pokemon. So even if you suck so hard you can't even win at an easy game, DO NOT WORRY, YOU CAN JUST GRIND and then finally tackle that damn rock Pokemon into oblivion..

And if you wanna pull that card of LoL having grind for Champions and runes and such then I'm just gonna go ahead and ask: do you play LoL for runes/champions? Because if you do, then I think you're playing the game for the wrong reason. I don't play for runes. I play for the competitive nature of the game, I play for the greatly varying and challenging experiences you can have against other players.

That was when I still was playing, over a year ago.

It might feel more rewarding but its still a waste of time unless you are professional. Also, all video games are a waste of time, as stated before.

Oh please.
You're just trying to devalue the discussion.

If one attribute is a part of both equations it can be ignored.

Actually, I play Pokemon for the campaign, lol.

I don't think that Pokemon being mechanically easy is a bad thing. I still enjoy the storylines and facing gym leaders, boss battles, etc.

However, in this version, they presented literally no challenge at all. Your rival is no stronger than your average trainer, the gym leaders are no stronger than their junior trainers and the Flare Boss battle was a ****ing disappointment.

I mean, 70% of the time, I didn't even have to worry about type advantage.

If the best you have to offer is a Mega Gyarados... Yes, I'm a little disappointed. When I have difficulty catching Pokemon in the newer areas because I'm 10 levels above them, yes, I'm a little disappointed. When ALL of my party is comprised of only one Kalos region Pokemon because it was my starter Pokemon, you betcha *** I'm a little disappointed. It didn't even happen because I wanted it to happen. I genuinely had trouble finding new Pokemon to fit into my party, ESPECIALLY when the first 3 Pokemon you can receive from the game form a perfect party. Then you're given a Lucario and you can catch a Legendary. On top of this, you're also given a Lapras. I mean... spoonfeed much...?

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the game very much regardless, but I am a little disheartened overall by how little effort I have to put into it to complete the campaign.

@waste of time convo, to each their own, amirite? Searz doesnt like how pokemon wastes time, and I respect his opinion. I still like Pokemon, but I only play it to battle people with the wireless now. :p

@Sirell. Yea, the story was way easier than I expected. They really do give you way too much power for very little effort.

FML.

Caught a Zoroark, but my Nincada evolved at the same time and it completely slipped my mind that Zoroark would take up the space in my party slot that would let me get Shedinja.
