I have tried again and again to get into Dota2, and I just can't the best way to say it is I don't like it. However I do have a friend who swears that if I start getting into Dota2 my league game will get better. He plays both of them a lot and is most of the time a lot better at League then me.

Things that he said Dota2 would help with in league is CS, zoning, and map awareness, but playing Dota2 it's just not my thing.

And like Shuru said Last hitting is harder in Dota2 but once you get it down it translate's well into League

However I don't see any real reason why it would keep you from advancing in skill level in league or Dota2 as long as you have the mind set they they are different games, and you play them differently. It should not hinder your gameplay at all

Even DOTA 2 has similar mechanics with LoL I did not liked it, I played few games but it is not my kind of game. I know many people who like it and said they improve their skill in moba genre there but most of them just left LoL for DOTA 2.
I think people should gain experience from different sources so you can easily play both of this games since you have fun and advance in both of it.

I've been wondering about branching out as well. It makes sense that playing other MOBAs would improve your play in general, kind of like how playing as many different champs as possible improves your play as a whole. So, in a way, another MOBA is just a completely new list of champs.

That being said, anyone try Heroes of Newerth?

Nope, the two games have very different styles. Just because football and basketball both use a ball doesn't mean they're basically the same game.
Thanks to Minho for the sig!

HoN is lame.

Dota and League are very different styles of play, completely.

that being said, dota's mechanics and game decisions still transfer well into league and other mobas, It's a rather complex game and having to learn to deny AND farm make it easier to farm in LoL in my oppinion. my decision skills have also been better lately.

Hating Dota is ****ing stupid. If there was no Dota, there'd be no LoL or MOBA genre in general.

I perform much better in LoL after playing some Dota2. Currently playing both; Dota2 because it's a truly good game and LoL mainly because... I dunno actually.

LoL is all about winning the lane. If a team does well during laning phase it will win. True comebacks that don't involve enemy team ****-ups almost never happen in this game. LoL is just a simple, easy to pick up MOBA game with an ever-expanding roster of same-ish champs. Maybe this is starting to bite LoL in the *** a bit, but it would never be as popular as it is if it wasn't that way.

Dota2 is more about planning and team building. You really have to think of how much early/mid/late power you have, how well you can push and how strong you are during late game. Counters are a very big deal there. Plus, the skill ceiling in Dota2 is much higher than in LoL.
I don't play LoL anymore.
