It isn't a General Guide, but a Champion Guide. Put this guide in the general ones only brings confusion. Also your guide can get more visibility if you put it in the right section.

You don't need hybrid penetration at all. Go for flat Magic Penetration. Armor Penetration does nothing to help you, just look at your damage statisticks in the after game screen and see how much physical damage you do... Spellvamp is great though and I think Armor and Health Seals are balanced even.


Valid points regarding flat Magic Penetration. I suppose it's a personal preference that I myself probably haven't shaken off yet. Hopefully in a day or two I'll have ample time to pump out some jungle Karthus to validate it.

I have yet to see any noticeable difference between flat HP / Flat Armor runes in the jungle, so in terms of balance - either works perfectly fine. However I favor HP. :) And I absolutely /love/ Spell Vamp on Karthus.

One final note - I'll also check out that stream and see if I can gleam some insight on improving both my guide, and how to better play Karthus as a jungler. Always good to learn and improve, afterall.

Heya oxoxo221, sorry it didn't work out for you. Perhaps you could give me a bit more feedback to explain where you had trouble. Maybe it was opposing matchups, or a lack of power spike? Did you not agree with certain items selections, rune or mastery pages, or perhaps it was simply a strike of bad luck? I cannot help you by improving my guide without further elaboration. :)

I'm skeptical about karthus jung. This is obviously not optimal for mid tier game(high silver-low plat, i think) where they are good enough to counter jungle but not good enough to ward for the jungler. Other than that, the guide is logical and a good read. I will test it out before voting.

Good guide so far, and I absolutly believe in Karthus jungle. I would include a link to Azingy's Karthus stream he plays this in diamond 1 and challenger. Overall, a solid guide! The coding is done beautifully and the build choices make sense for the most part. However, even though I don't play Karthus very often, I do want to bring up a few points:

I personally really don't like Deathfire Grasp on him. All of Karthus' damage abilities are AOE, and thus doesn't fit the single-target assassin playstyle, which I find is the role that most often gets DFG.

Rabadon's Deathcap I find is much more suitable, since it'll boost all of your AP by 30%, and thus makes your AOE spells do much more damage. Also, no Void Staff? You're going to be completely and utterly useless once the enemy starts building MR. To me, these two should be considered almost core, since they are essential to dealing the maximum amount of damage that you can as an AP champion.

I would sell Spirit of the Spectral Wraith once you get all of your other items. It falls off late game since you won't need the gold passive that much, nor will you be spending your time farming your jungle. Late game is the time where teamfights are ridiculously important, and clearing your jungle shouldn't be your priority any longer.

You might want to watch your coding in your Alternative Path for jungling ;) It got a little messy towards the end.

I'm pretty sure Karthus can beat Draven Jungle .-. :P Probably not actually... More like Sona Jungle.
No but putting that is fine since if they're smart they should counterjungle you(put a section for this too) and basically if they're Udyr, Shyvana, or even Nunu & Willump they can counter jungle you and duel you easily. As Karthus you have to abuse Lay Waste's range(while jungling and getting countered jungle, etc.) and stuff so you can try to outduel them. Try to have vision in your jungle at all times(which I wont do because its literally impossible for me to build and do this for me lol) and you should have a mobile mid(top and bot are optional) so they can help you. Blue side should have mobile bots more and Purple should have top(due to Karthus 99.999999% starting blue).
On another completely random note I've done double jungling before and Karthus is seriously screwed on that fact. He cant protect for **** other than some random Lay Waste damage which most counterjunglers shrug off lol.

Thanks for the feedback, DarkAkumaLord. :)

I've been sitting here thinking about how to do these matchups in a unique way to explain how Karthus fares against each champion; or at the very least - against common matchups. But so far, it's coming down to "Nearly all the time, common junglers beat your face in early game."

I'm not going to put that, I believe in thorough, informative write-ups so I'll work on the matchups as I play against them. :)

As for Bladed Armor, it's an excellent suggestion considering I'll probably not make much use of Juggernaut beyond squeezing a few hit points out of it. I'll give it a shot during some of my clear path tests.

Finally, alternate items. Definitely something to explore. I've toyed with Rod of Ages in the past; while it's nice for laning Karthus I'm finding it less important in the jungle. But I can certainly agree to expanding item selections.

Should mention matchups
If you have 2 tough skin points, bladed armor might as well be gotten or none cause it's the only reason I would even get it.
