[1 Million+ Mastery Points, EUW MASTER] The Season 11 Qiyana

By xMetix
About me

Hello!

I'm xMetix, an EUW Master tier player.

For most of my career I've been playing on EUNE for fun. Recently around September 2020, I've decided to tryhard and push my limits, finishing the season at 150LP EUNE Grandmaster.

I then swapped to an EUW account under the same nickname playing, tryharding and improving every day. I quickly realized that it's going to be even harder to push through the divisions of Diamond and slowly over the course of Pre-season I reached Diamond 1 after ~400 games. Season 11 started rough, I was struggling in Diamond 3-2 for some time still focused on improving and staying calm, until eventually at the end of April I managed to make a push to Master tier. Following that in my next 2 weaks I reached a peak of 177LP with an astonishing winrate of 80% over last 40 games!

I love the game and unlike most of the players I actually enjoy playing it, I don't mind flamers or griefers I'm just there to perform well and have fun doing it. At the start of April I decided to try Streaming consistently and make educational content for Qiyana. You can also find me playing other games on stream but currently I'm pretty limited to League of Legends. If you want calm and fun vibes with high chances of educational information you should definitely check out my stream linked at the top of the guide!
Itemization

This is the most used build popularized by Beifeng

Prowler's enables a lot of mobility options as well as tons of new combos.

Serpent's Fang is a very good cheap item to buy before manamune, its stats as well as shield breaking are perfect for Qiyana. Remember to check for shields in the enemy team, including Shield Bow, Sterak's Gage and Locket of the Iron Solari. You will mostly need it against enchanter supports such as Lulu, Janna, Karma or Seraphine, but it will come in handy against Samira, Yone or tank supports that buy Locket.

Manamune or Muramana is sometimes skipped by players due to weakening your early game by requiring a tear buy. In my opinion the item is so perfect for Qiyana it makes no sense to look over the scaling possibility that it offers. The ~80ad with her insane ~700% ad ratio or full combo, CDR, mana and on-hit damage proves to be really good against all kinds of targets, squishy and tanky.

4th item is always a struggle between Lord Dominik's Regards or Serylda. First one is cheaper and works well against tanks but second one offers CDR, which is helpful in scoring multikills later on. If the main threat of enemy team is a tank like Cho'Gath/Renekton/Hecarim you might want to opt into LDR. If you need armor pen but don't really fight a lot of healthy opponents then Serylda is your best choice.

Last item is situational there's a lot of different options and opinions on what to buy. Black Cleaver, Edge of Night, Guardian Angel, Death's Dance, QSS, The Collector can all find their niche in your games.
Laning Phase

Early levels

Qiyana has a very unique laning phase. Her level 1-2 is really weak so it is not advised to walk up and cs unless you can tell that the enemy is not looking to punish you for it. The way to judge your enemies intent is to rapidly move forward and backwards just outside of their range and watching their movement. If they walk up to punish when you step up you back off, if they ignore you then you can score a last hit and back off. Be careful not to lose your health since it will deny your ability to all-in level 3.

Setting up an all-in

A popular misconception that I used to believe too is that Qiyana's early game is weak. This is not true and there are ways to utilize her abilities in a way that makes her insanely strong in lane.

Firstly you want to start poking with direct Q hits at level 2. Qiyana's Q deals 75% damage to all targets beyond the first. This restriction makes it very mana inefficient to poke your enemies through minions. Any time you can get a free direct hit, go for it. You need your enemy to drop to ~70% health.

Secondly, you want to let the wave push into you. Try not to let the enemy stack up a huge wave, only a 2-3 minion advantage that will make the wave come into your side of the lane. This puts your enemies further away from their tower and allows you to go in for a longer fight. I can not stress this enough, if the wave is too big you need to hit minions any chance you get unless they are trying to pressure you away from them. Letting the wave stack up will make them crash it under tower and get a reset or make you get a lot of minion damage when attempting to fight.

Lastly you need the right element, depending on your enemy it will be either Grass or Ice but either is good so make sure it refreshed your passive. You will then look for a misstep on their side, which might happen due to your defensive play during first two levels. You want to be a few units closer than your max range E so that you dash behind them instead of into them. This way you will have an easier time throwing in auto attack while orb walking in the direction they're running. Don't be afraid to use ignite early for additional damage allowing you to land bonus damage with your wall Q.

Post all-in window

If you got a kill, congratulations! Shove the wave and get your dirk so you can start smashing the enemy laner every time he gets in your E range.

If not, try to get a minion lead by hitting the minions often and shoving a newly approached wave. This puts you in a position to:
- follow your jungler
- get a reset
- get vision
- roam to side lanes.
Remember to always check what your jungler's pathing is, where is the enemy jungler and how healthy are the side lanes so you can make a quick decision at this point.

After first recall

From here things become simple, if there's a lot of trading and fighting around the map, shove the waves and roam. If the teams are calm and just farming not losing much hp you might want to freeze and zone the enemy laner, maybe even set up some ganks. You might also look to pick off enemy jungler on his camps since he'll be 1-2 levels behind. Especially when you have your ultimate and they don't.
