Hey, I'm Kasugunai and welcome to my Karthus guide. I've been playing League of Legends since August 2010, having peaked Challenger rank 2 in April 2018.

I have been doing individual coaching (multiple games) since 2014 and played professionally for nearly a year from September 2015 to May 2016. Earlier last year I started my path to a more serious career in League of Legends esports, having worked in the German national league (ESLM) as an analyst for 2 weeks, in the Portuguese one (DreamcupPT) as a coach for 1 month and most importantly as the Head Analyst for Beşiktaş Esports in TCL 2019 Summer.

I took a break from esports until the end of this year's spring split for personal reasons, so in the meantime I figured I could write some short guides to assist people looking for updated setups and gameplay.

Getting Started
Before anything else, I want to make it clear that my guides are highly focused on how to play the champion to its highest level so I won't go into general concepts. For that you'd need to look up an extensive general guide but even then, it might be too much to cover without a proper coaching session.

Feel free to ask me any questions in the comments, I usually reply within a day unless I'm away from home. Alternatively, in the case that I'm live, you can also tune into my stream and ask me any questions and I'll answer if I'm not in-game.

All the information in my guides comes from working with professional players or dedicated champion mains.

Abilities
       



Death Defied (Passive)
INNATE: Upon taking fatal damage, Karthus remains active for 7 seconds, rendering himself unable to move, basic attack, cast summoner spells, or use item actives, but becoming untargetable and invulnerable for the duration as well as being able to use abilities at no cost.

If Defile has been learned, it will remain toggled on for Death Defied's entire duration at no mana cost.


Ability Details:




Lay Waste (Q)

Target Range: 875
Effect Radius: 160
Cast Time: 0.15
Cost: 20 / 26 / 32 / 38 / 44 mana
Cooldown: 1

ACTIVE: Karthus briefly reveals the target area which he detonates after a 0.5-second delay, dealing 50 / 70 / 90 / 110 / 130 (+ 35% AP) magic damage to all enemies within, doubled when hitting only one target.

Lay Waste's damage is reduced by 15% against monsters.

During Death Defied, Lay Waste will cast at maximum range if cast beyond that.


Ability Details:




Wall of Pain (W)

Target Range: 1000
Cast Time: 0.2
Cost: 70 mana
Cooldown: 15

ACTIVE: Karthus creates a passable wall of energy (length: 800 / 900 / 1000 / 1100 / 1200) at the target location for 5 seconds, granting sight around its pillars.

For the duration, any enemy unit whose gameplay radius touches it is both slowed by 40 / 50 / 60 / 70 / 80% for 4 seconds, decaying over its duration, and loses 15% magic resistance for the same duration.

Each unit can only be affected once per cast.

Defile (E)

Effect Radius: 550
Cast Time: None
Cost: 30 / 42 / 54 / 66 / 78 mana per second
Static Cooldown: 0.5

PASSIVE: Karthus restores 20 / 27 / 34 / 41 / 48 mana whenever he kills an enemy.

TOGGLE: Karthus deals 7.5 / 12.5 / 17.5 / 22.5 / 27.5 (+ 5% AP) magic damage every 0.25 seconds to all nearby enemies. Toggling Defile off deals 1 tick's worth of damage.

Defile cannot be toggled off during Death Defied, but it can be while channeling Requiem.

Requiem (R)

Effect Radius: Global
Cast Time: 0.2
Cost: 100 mana
Cooldown: 200 / 180 / 160

ACTIVE: Karthus channels for 3 seconds then deals 200 / 350 / 500 (+ 75% AP) magic damage to all targetable enemy champions upon its completion.
