🔴 [13.22] Challenger Thresh Guide 🎥Commentary INCLUDED

By ShoDesu
Introduction
Hello! My name is ShoDesu AKA J4NNA AKA Hook Theory. I have hit challenger multiple times during season 12/13 playing support! For the longest time I was only focused on climbing, but now I am shifting that into creating support content and trying to help others! I stream Mon-Fri 11:30 AM PST - 5 PM PST at https://www.twitch.tv/shodesu and also have a YouTube channel where I post reguluarly at https://YouTube.com/shodesu. I'm happy to answer any questions! :)
Pros & Cons
Pros of Thresh Support:

Crowd Control: Thresh has an arsenal of crowd control abilities, including his Death Sentence, Flay, and The Box. These abilities allow him to engage, peel, and disrupt enemies, making him a potent playmaker and facilitator for his team.

Utility: Thresh's lantern ability, Dark Passage, provides a powerful utility tool that can save teammates from dangerous situations or help them engage or disengage effectively. The lantern can also be used for strategic positioning and objective control.

Versatility: Thresh can adapt to different situations and team compositions. He can engage fights with his hook or lantern, or he can play defensively and peel for his carries. Thresh's flexibility makes him a valuable support pick in various team compositions.

Vision Control: Thresh's passive ability, Damnation, allows him to collect souls that enhance his armor and ability power. Additionally, his lantern can be used to safely provide vision in areas of the map that may be dangerous to approach.

Cons of Thresh Support:

Skill Ceiling: Thresh has a high skill ceiling, meaning that mastering his kit and landing his skillshots can take time and practice. It can be challenging to consistently land his Death Sentence (Q) or make optimal use of his lantern in high-pressure situations.

Squishiness: Thresh is relatively squishy, especially in the early stages of the game. This means that positioning and map awareness are crucial to avoid getting caught out and killed by the enemy team.

Reliance on Team Coordination: Thresh's effectiveness often relies on good communication and coordination with your team. For example, your teammates need to recognize and react to your engage attempts or utilize the lantern effectively.

Vulnerability to Poke: Thresh can struggle against poke-heavy lane matchups, as his health pool and sustain options are not as strong as some other support champions. Care must be taken to avoid unnecessary damage and maintain lane presence.
Abilities
Passive - Damnation
Thresh can harvest the souls of enemies that die near him, gaining bonus ability power and armor. This passive provides Thresh with scaling stats throughout the game.
Q - Death Sentence
Thresh throws out his scythe in a straight line, pulling the first enemy hit towards him and dealing magic damage. If Thresh reactivates the ability, he can dash to the enemy hit, allowing for engaging or disengaging plays.
W - Dark Passage
Thresh throws a lantern to a target location, creating a shield for nearby allies. If an ally clicks the lantern, they are quickly pulled towards Thresh. This ability provides both shielding and a powerful tool for saving teammates or setting up engages.
E - Flay
Thresh's next basic attack sweeps his chain in a target direction, dealing bonus magic damage and knocking enemies in the direction of the swing. This ability can be used to interrupt dashes, displace enemies, or set up kills.
R - The Box
Thresh summons a prison of spectral walls around him, damaging and slowing enemies that pass through them. If an enemy champion touches a wall, they are also briefly immobilized. This ultimate ability can be used for zone control, peel, or locking down key targets in team fights.

Thresh's abilities revolve around crowd control, utility, and setting up plays for his team. His passive grants him additional stats, rewarding him for collecting souls. The combination of his Q, W, and E abilities allows Thresh to engage, disengage, and provide protection to his allies. His ultimate ability, The Box, is a powerful zoning tool that can create chaos in team fights and deter enemies from engaging or escaping. Thresh's kit requires good positioning, timing, and coordination with teammates
Itemization: BOOTS
BOOT CHOICE
When it comes to choosing boots for Thresh support, there are a few viable options depending on the game situation and your personal preference. Here are some popular boot choices for Thresh:

Mobility Boots: Mobility Boots are a common choice for Thresh support. They provide increased movement speed out of combat, allowing you to roam and exert pressure on other lanes. These boots can help you quickly move around the map to set up vision control, gank other lanes, or assist your team in various situations. I recommend going mobis when you have a lane with perma prio/the enemy has no kill pressure (Yuumi/Sona lane).

Mercury's Treads: Mercury's Treads are a good option when facing a team with crowd control or heavy magic damage. They provide bonus magic resistance and reduce the duration of crowd control effects, helping you to resist crowd control and stay alive in team fights.

Plated Steelcaps: Plated Steelcaps is a solid choice against a team composition that heavily relies on physical damage or has auto-attack reliant champions. The boots provide bonus armor and reduce incoming damage from basic attacks, making you more resilient against AD-focused opponents.

Ionian Boots of Lucidity: Ionian Boots of Lucidity offer a 15% cooldown reduction, which can be valuable for Thresh as it reduces the cooldowns on his abilities. This allows you to use your crowd control and utility spells more frequently throughout the game. Ionian boots should be the standard when any of the other conditions are not met.

Boots of Swiftness: Swifties are really nice when the enemy has a lot of slows. It's very cheap and playing them into the correct team comp feels amazing.

Ultimately, the choice of boots should be based on the game's specific circumstances and your playstyle. Consider the enemy team composition, the threats you're facing, and the objectives you want to achieve. Adapt your boot choice accordingly.
Itemization: MYTHIC
MYTHIC CHOICE
Just like his boot options, Thresh is flexible enough to go most of the tank support mythics. Here are the three that you should be buying.

Locket of the Iron Solari: You can never go wrong with buying Locket because it works in any team comp. The value you get from the shield and resistances is always good. If you are unsure of what mythic to go, this is the go-to.

Evenshroud: Evenshroud works really well with Thresh's kit because his Q and E can trigger the passive. I would recommend only going Evenshroud when the enemy has A LOT of hard CC because you can get insane value from triggering it yourself and triggering it by the enemy.

Shurelya's Battlesong: Shuryla's is nice when the enemy is squishy and does not have a lot of engage. Rather than playing a front to back oriented playstyle with locket/evenshroud, you can look to play for picks and Shurylas. A common combination with shurlyas is mobis because it makes you ZOOM across the rift.
Tips & Tricks
1.) Master the Art of Flaying: Thresh's Flay (E) ability can be a powerful tool for disrupting enemies and setting up plays. Practice the timing and direction of your Flays to interrupt dashes, displacing enemies towards your team, or preventing them from escaping. Additionally, you can use Flay to interrupt channels like teleport or abilities with cast times.

2.) Utilize Lantern (W) Creatively: Thresh's Lantern ability, Dark Passage (W), has numerous uses beyond saving teammates. You can throw it into the fog of war to provide vision, creating opportunities for plays or scouting objectives safely. Additionally, you can use it to shield teammates from abilities or to bait enemies into overextending.

3.) Predict with Death Sentence (Q): Thresh's Death Sentence (Q) is a skillshot that can be difficult to land consistently. Try to predict the enemy's movement patterns and use it when they are likely to commit to a last-hit or an anticipated dodge. Remember, landing a successful Death Sentence can often lead to a follow-up engage or a favorable trade.

4.) Abuse Bush Control: Thresh's hook is less predictable when thrown from within a brush since enemies won't have visual cues to dodge it. Utilize brush control to create surprise engages and catch enemies off guard. Control the vision in the bot lane bushes to gain an advantage in trades and all-ins.

5.) Roam and Assist: Thresh has great roaming potential. After pushing the wave or when your ADC can safely farm alone, look for opportunities to roam mid or assist your jungler. Your crowd control and lantern can make a huge difference in securing kills or objectives in other lanes.

6.) Collect Souls: Thresh gains bonus armor and ability power from collecting souls dropped by minions. Make a conscious effort to collect these souls whenever possible to enhance your tankiness and damage potential as the game progresses.

Remember, practice is key to improving your Thresh gameplay. The more you play, the better you'll become at landing hooks, making plays with your lantern, and utilizing Thresh's kit effectively. Good luck!
