Until you get sheen, an extreme pain in the ***. You will need to know what you're doing to get to that point, after sheen (especially if you have ignite) its not the worst, but it is still not a good matchup.

Cho'Gath

Major

Really annoying in lane, if you manage to dodge his Qs, and you are super aggressive with your passive, it is winnable in lane, however late game, it is unplayable, Gangplank late game in general isn't good against most tanks.

Dr. Mundo

Major

Pretty okay early game, nothing horrible there, however just like cho gath, a massive problem late game.

Darius

You NEED ignite for this matchup if you want to be aggressive and actually fight him, he will run you down if you don't know how to play the matchup. Poke him down with your Es as best you can, and if he is low enough (about 50%), flash whenever he tries to Q you, refresh your passive by blowing up a barrel next to you, and with ignite you should win.

Aatrox

A really horrible matchup, if you can somehow manage to dodge all his Qs, its manageable, however if you do not (most likely for most players) this matchup is a really big pain. Buy dorans shield and really lock-in. Second worst lane for Gangplank in my opinion.

Tryndamere

Extreme

Worst matchup in lane for gangplank, if I could have two bans, trynd would be the second. This lane is almost unwinnable and even late game, you can't beat him. Gangplank is significantly better in teamfights though, so it isn't a lost cause late.

Kayle

Extreme

Insanely simple and easy early game, especially with ignite. However if you know anything about kayle players, if the game doesn't end by 25 min, she will outscale you so hard you will cry a river. She is my perma ban and I never unban her, and in the event that someone else bans her, I ban Tryndamere.

Camille

Minor

If you play carefully around her shield and manage to dodge her E, it is a free lane. no trouble here,

Easiest lane for GP, literally free for anyone.

Kled

This is a skill matchup, whoever plays better wins. I would ALWAYS take ignite in this matchup, as Kled will likely too.

Renekton

Minor

Just save ur W for his W, and you will win every trade, poke him with your E and Q, and you should win any trade. A pretty easy lane. You should take ignite as Renektons tend to run ignite.

Illaoi

It's only a super strong matchup if you take ignite. If you do take ignite, this is a free lane.

Gwen

Minor

The moment you force out her W, bully her into oblivion. Gwen usually takes ignite in my matches, so I would advise taking ignite against her as well.

K'Sante

Extreme

Absolutely disgusting champion, take ignite and you will need to know what you are doing. Extremely difficult.

Ornn

Major

Very annoying lane, if you ever go in for a passive hit (basically if you enter melee range) you will get demolished. However it isn't unwinnable, just a bad matchup.

Trundle

Minor

Though trundle has been harassing league recently, Gangplank doesn't have many issues with dealing with him. Should be a pretty straight forward lane.

Teemo

Tiny

Teemo is very bad into Gangplank, take ignite as teemos ALWAYS take ignite, and play around your barrels. You should win this easily.

Volibear

Even

If you take ignite, this is a good matchup, if you don't it is even or even slightly bad. So I would advise taking ignite and just poking him down with your E and Q, until you see him use his Q or E, I wouldn't try going melee. If he does use either, you should automatically win trade with a passive Q and W.

Garen

Minor

Extremely free matchup early game, however mid game even if you win trades like you do in lane, Garen's regeneration is way too strong in mid game and he will just chill out after every trade and will outlast you eventually. But during laning phase, TAKE IGNITE (Garens ALWAYS take ignite) and you should win.

Urgot

Major

Early game isn't the worst, you just need to know how to play gangplank fairly well. Take ignite, as Urgot always takes ignite. If you dodge his E and can hit your Es without him being able to destroy your barrels pre-emptively, you win the lane. Mid and late game are a lot scarier and he's a lot stronger then. That's where he becomes a major issue.
