By DjEhsan
Introduction

In this guide you will know why exactly we are doing these items and runes and gameplay, If you have never played Talon too you can now comepletely learn his gameplay here, let's sharpen your skills.

"Live and die by the blade."
— Talon
Pros & Cons

Pros

- Exceptional roaming potential with Assassin's Path wall jumps
- Massive burst damage that can delete squishy targets instantly
- Strong level 2 all-in potential for early first blood
- Excellent map mobility and escape options
- Great wave clear with maxed Rake ability
- High snowball potential with successful early kills

Cons

- Vulnerable to crowd control and burst when caught
- Falls off significantly in late game teamfights
- Relies heavily on getting early leads to stay relevant
- Limited utility outside of pure damage
- Struggles against tanky compositions
- High skill ceiling requires precise combo execution

Talon dominates the mid lane with his unparalleled mobility and devastating burst damage, making him the perfect assassin for punishing positioning mistakes. His unique wall-jumping ability allows him to traverse the map like no other champion, creating constant pressure and unexpected gank opportunities. With his level 2 power spike, Talon can secure early kills that often snowball into complete lane dominance. His wave clear enables quick rotations, while his assassination potential keeps enemy carries in constant fear throughout the mid game.

Despite his strengths, Talon faces significant challenges against coordinated teams. His effectiveness diminishes dramatically in late game teamfights where enemies group together and build defensive items. Without an early lead, Talon struggles to impact the game and can become irrelevant quickly. He offers little utility beyond raw damage, making him a poor choice when behind. Tanky champions with crowd control can easily shut down his engages, and precise execution is required to maximize his combo potential against skilled opponents.

In summary, Talon is a high-risk, high-reward assassin who excels at creating early advantages through superior mobility and burst damage. While he has clear weaknesses in prolonged games, a skilled Talon player can end matches before his limitations become apparent, making him a terrifying force in the right hands.

Abilities
PASSIVE ABILITY
Blade's End
Talon's abilities wound champions and epic monsters, stacking up to 3 times. When Talon basic attacks a fully stacked target, they bleed heavily over time.
The core of Talon's assassination pattern. Each ability applies a stack, and the third stack triggers massive damage over time. This passive enables Talon's burst combo and is essential for securing kills. The bleed damage scales with attack damage, making it devastating in the mid to late game.
Q
Noxian Diplomacy
Talon stabs a target. If cast at melee range, it critically strikes. If cast at range, Talon leaps to the target and stabs them.
Your primary gap closer and execute tool. The melee version deals critical damage, perfect for finishing low-health targets. The ranged version allows you to leap over walls and close distance. Use this to apply your first passive stack and position for your full combo.
W
Rake
Talon sends out a volley of daggers that then return to him, dealing physical damage each way.
Your primary wave clear and poke tool. The outgoing blades slow enemies, while the returning blades apply damage and passive stacks. Use this to farm safely and set up kills by applying two passive stacks from a distance. The slow makes it easier to land your other abilities.
E
Assassin's Path
Talon vaults over any terrain or structure, with a cooldown per wall.
What makes Talon the ultimate roamer. This ability allows you to traverse the map unlike any other champion. Each wall has an individual cooldown, enabling creative escape routes and unexpected gank paths. Use this to outmaneuver enemies, escape dangerous situations, and create map pressure.
R
Shadow Assault
Talon disperses a ring of blades and becomes invisible, gaining movement speed. When Talon emerges from stealth, the blades converge on him.
Your ultimate teamfight and assassination tool. The invisibility allows you to reposition or escape, while the blades deal massive damage when they converge. Use this to engage fights, dodge key abilities, or secure kills on multiple targets. The movement speed boost helps you stick to targets or disengage safely.
ABILITY SEQUENCE
> > >
Max Rake (W) first for wave clear and poke damage. Noxian Diplomacy (Q) comes second for increased burst and lower cooldown. Put one point in Assassin's Path (E) at level 3 and max it last, as it doesn't benefit from levels. Always level Shadow Assault (R) at 6, 11, and 16 for maximum assassination potential.
Spells

Summoner Spells: The Assassin's Arsenal

Flash is non-negotiable for Talon. This spell provides the crucial mobility needed to execute your full burst combo or escape certain death. Use Flash to extend the range of your Q (Noxian Diplomacy) for surprise engages, dodge critical skillshots, or instantly reposition during teamfights. The outplay potential Flash offers is essential for a champion who lives and dies by precise positioning.

Ignite is the aggressive choice for Talon, providing extra true damage and grievous wounds to secure kills. Use it to amplify your burst damage and counter healing champions. Perfect for early all-ins and ensuring targets cannot survive your combo with a sliver of health.

Why would you?!

Conclusion

Flash remains essential for Talon's mobility and outplay potential and Ignite for aggressive lane dominance and kill pressure.

Items
Hubris provides snowball potential with its stacking attack damage on takedowns. The statue mechanic rewards aggressive play and successful assassinations. This item is ideal when you're already ahead and looking to extend your lead through pure damage amplification.
Axiom Arc is perfect for snowballing Talon games. The ultimate cooldown refund on takedowns allows for multiple assassinations in quick succession. This item transforms Talon into a constant threat, enabling him to use his ultimate multiple times in extended teamfights or rapid succession across the map.
Opportunity provides massive movement speed after killing an enemy, perfect for Talon's hit-and-run assassination style. The lethality and bonus damage against low-health targets complement his execute potential. This item allows Talon to quickly eliminate a target and reposition or escape before enemies can react to his presence.
Edge of Night provides crucial spell shield protection for Talon's engages. The spell shield blocks one enemy ability, preventing crowd control from interrupting your combo. This is essential when diving into enemy teams, as it ensures you can reach your target and unleash your full burst without being instantly disabled.
Serylda's Grudge provides essential armor penetration against tankier targets. The slow on ability damage ensures enemies cannot escape once you've engaged. This item is crucial in the mid to late game when enemies start building armor, allowing Talon to remain relevant against bruisers and tanks.
Serpent's Fang is essential against shield-heavy compositions. The shield reduction makes it significantly easier to burst through protected targets. Build this when facing champions with innate shields or teams that build items like Shieldbow to ensure your assassinations aren't thwarted by last-second protection.
Profane Hydra provides massive AoE burst for teamfight situations. The active ability deals execute damage to low-health targets, perfect for cleaning up fights. This item enhances Talon's wave clear and gives him additional burst for eliminating multiple targets in quick succession.
Death's Dance provides survivability against burst damage compositions. The damage delay and healing on takedowns allow Talon to survive initial burst and potentially secure multiple kills in teamfights. Build this when facing heavy AD teams or when you need additional durability.
Maw of Malmortius is essential against AP-heavy compositions. The magic shield and lifesteal provide crucial survivability when facing burst mages. This item ensures Talon can dive onto AP carries without being instantly deleted by their magic damage.
Guardian Angel provides a safety net for aggressive dives. The resurrection passive allows Talon to make high-risk engages without fear of throwing the game. This is particularly valuable in late-game scenarios where a single death can determine the outcome. Note that this Item is very situational for our guide.
As you noticed we didn't mention Youmuu's Ghostblade in this build, that's because I personally don't think it's worth it more than the item set I provided in the most cases, but it usually is Talon's core first item, Allowing him to reach lanes quickly for ganks and create constant pressure. But in the end I don't recommend it for this guide.

Electrocute is the premier keystone rune for Talon, perfectly complementing his identity as a burst assassin. Its function is simple: hitting an enemy champion with 3 separate attacks or abilities within a short time triggers a burst of adaptive damage. This synergizes perfectly with Talon's core combo of W (Rake) to slow and apply two stacks, followed by Q (Noxian Diplomacy) to leap in and proc the Electrocute damage, often triggering his passive (Blade's End) simultaneously. This massive upfront burst is essential for quickly eliminating squishy targets and establishing early game dominance, which is crucial for a snowballing champion like Talon.

The standard shard setup for Talon focuses on maximizing early damage and scaling survivability.

- **Adaptive Force**: This is the primary offensive stat for Talon, directly increasing the damage of his abilities and auto-attacks. This is taken twice for maximum burst potential.
- **Health Scaling**: Provides a bonus of 10 − 180 (based on level) health. This shard is chosen over resistances to give Talon a bit more survivability in skirmishes and teamfights as the game progresses, which is more universally beneficial for a jungler facing mixed damage.

Important Runes

Sudden Impact This is the standard and most effective choice in this row. Talon's Q (Noxian Diplomacy) and E (Assassin's Path) both count as dashes, instantly activating Sudden Impact. It provides bonus Lethality and Magic Penetration for 5 seconds, significantly amplifying the damage of your initial burst combo right when you need it most.

Ultimate Hunter This is the keystone choice for the final Domination row. Talon's ultimate, Shadow Assault, is critical for his engages, escapes, and teamfight execution. Ultimate Hunter provides permanent cooldown reduction on it for each unique champion takedown, allowing you to use it much more frequently and exert immense map pressure.

Gameplay

Talon Gameplay Guide: The Blade's Shadow

Early Game (0-15 min): Dominate and Snowball

As Talon, your early game is your strongest phase. Your mission is to secure an early lead and spread it across the map.

- Jungle Clear & First Blood Potential: Focus on reaching Level 3 quickly. Talon has one of the highest first blood rates in the game. Use your W (Rake) for area damage and your Q (Noxian Diplomacy) for single-target burst and mobility to clear efficiently and stay healthy.
- Ganking Strategy: Your E (Assassin's Path) is your greatest tool. Use it to vault over walls and gank from unexpected angles, bypassing common ward spots. Target lanes with overextended enemies or where your allies have crowd control to secure kills easily.
- Objective Priority: Your early kill pressure translates into objective control. After a successful gank, look to secure Scuttle Crabs for vision and river control. Coordinate with your team to take early Void Grubs, as the structure-damaging buff synergizes well with your ability to pressure the map.

Mid Game (15-25 min): Roam and Create Picks

During the mid game, you are a roaming predator. Your goal is to isolate and eliminate key targets to create advantages for your team.

- Map-Wide Pressure: Use your E to traverse the jungle with unparalleled speed. Constantly look for picks on squishy enemies who are rotating alone through the river or jungle. Killing the enemy jungler before an objective like Dragon or Herald is a high-value play.
- Vision Control & Picks: Sweep key areas with an Oracle Lens and work with your support to establish vision control. Talon excels in areas where the enemy lacks vision, allowing you to ambush targets and escape before the enemy team can react.
- Objective Securing: Your burst damage allows your team to secure Neutral Objectives quickly. After you create a numbers advantage by getting a pick, immediately pivot to the nearest objective to force a favorable fight or take it for free.

Late Game (25+ min): Precision Assassination

Talon's effectiveness declines in the late game as enemies group up and build defensive items. Your role shifts from a relentless hunter to a precise assassin.

- Target Selection: In teamfights, your sole focus is the enemy backline. Wait for the fight to break out before entering. Do not engage first. Look for a flanking route with your E to reach the enemy carries without being seen.
- Flanking and Combos: Use a flank to get on top of the enemy carry. Your ideal combo is to use R (Shadow Assault) for invisibility and movement speed, then Q onto the target, and use W to ensure the blades from your ultimate converge for maximum burst. Use your E to escape over a wall immediately after.
- Playing from Behind: If you are behind, avoid 5v5 teamfights. Instead, split-push a side lane and use your mobility to escape when multiple enemies come to stop you. This creates pressure and allows your team to secure objectives elsewhere.

Advanced Rotation & Roam Guide
- Getting Priority for Objectives: Before an objective spawns, you need to create "prio" (lane priority) for your team. Gank the lane closest to the upcoming objective (e.g., bot lane for Dragon). A successful kill or forcing the enemy to recall gives your team priority, allowing them to help you secure the objective safely.
- The Roam Timer: After clearing your jungle camps, look at the lanes. The best roam opportunities are against enemies with no escape abilities or who have used their Flash. Your E allows you to gank, secure a kill, and return to farming with minimal time lost.
- Tracking the Enemy Jungler: Use the information from your laners and your own wards to predict where the enemy jungler is. If you see them on the opposite side of the map, you can counter-jungle their camps, set up a gank on the other side, or safely take an objective.

Conclusion

Last tips

Early game ( level 3 ) you have 5 options to do: Scale and wait for level 6, gank bot, gank top, kill jungle at raptors or blue ( you will know it's location based on your early raptor ward ), or kill mid. In worse cases you will be ganked early and you can escape with flash and Nimbus Cloak, or you are already level 3 and you can escape with E. After that just hunt the shutdowns and don't hesitate to burn sums or ults for it. You can also use this build for jungle but secondary rune must be Legend: Haste and Coup de Grace, Basically the same gameplay, Look for kills and stack Hubris.

GOOD LUCK <3!
