Get a stun in a team fight and he should be very easy to kill for your team. He will build mostly dmg until mid game so he is very vulnerable for stun since he can't use his healing. Don't get baited by his passive if his team is rotating to your position.
Ahri
She has so much mobility and alot of sustain, so if she's fed your carry needs to play well since the stun will most likely not kill her. also she is very hard to hit since she has 3 dashes including her flash!
on top of that she goes through your magic resist on her Q.
Akali
She is quite bad in teamfights so she wont be a problem there, but again predict her dashes should be easy for a good bard since she most likely will jump your adc.
Alistar
He got a better tower dive and all in than you, but you have the range advantage so make use of it and poke him down early so he is no threat.
Amumu
Amumu is amumu, you can't peel him really when he is gonna ult your team, just try to make an escape for your carry using heal and magical journey near him/her. TIP!... if you time your ult try to hit the enemy carries so that he gets no follow up.
Anivia
not very hard to predict, she will kill you out of position tho and she has a revive passive. Don't let her one shot your carry! she is ranged so it will be harder than the attroxz matchup.
Annie
Well if she's not ahead you should win pre 6, you got better range and better cc. after 6 and teamfights just make sure she does not get in range of your carry. flash ult combo can be hard to help with tho :c....
Ashe
position behind minions and make it so that you can hit her while she can't hit you. should be easy to hit your q since she has no mobility. When she gets fed you don't wanna fight after 6 when her ult is up, unless you're sure you will win the fight.
Aurelion Sol
He's a roaming champion make some deep wards and you should be fine. and stunning him should not be hard in most cases.
Azir
Skill matchup, a good azir will be very hard to deal with, but will most likely die by a good timed stun and follow up. A bad azir will be easy. Just either wait or bait out his dash.
Bard
You know you're the bard god because you got the right guide to help you ;)). Btw good to practise in normals and then head to ranked so you won't meet another bard.
Blitzcrank
well blitz WILL **** you up if you let him, but don't be afraid to trade, you still have your range to trade with. this matchup is much about lane and wave control, so if you see yourself lose this alot you know what to improve on.
Brand
Better poke, Better teamfight damage wise. brand is a top tier support even tho he doesn't have much utility unlike bard. You win if you position well and dodge skill shot, but the nature of the lane makes so that he will out damage you most of the time. Play passive and only strike when it's a free trade.
Braum
he is not hard to lane against, but he makes it so hard for you to stun any because of his shield in teamfights. not much to say about the matchup.
Caitlyn
She is a lane control MONSTER! and that is exactly what you don't want. as bard you wanna control the lane in the first 10 minutes but free harras from range and traps makes it hard for you to position and use bushes. R.I.P YOU. tho this lane can be played passive pretty easy. Hard matchup and i normally choose morgana or janna in this matchup instead.
Camille
camille is not broken as many may see her. she is super strong tho because of the synergy in her kit. try to make your adc survive the lockdown. if no one else is around just ult them both and the ult time should be almost done. BUT ONLY WHEN YOU GUYS ARE ALONE OR ELSE HER TEAM WILL KILL HER INSTEAD!
Cassiopeia
this is a little personal hate for her, but she is so annoying to fase and very hard to predict at times. she can kite you, outrange you and chase you quite easily, try to hit a stun from a minion or ult her for your team to follow.
Cho'Gath
hmm he is quite tanky and deals alot of dmg, but he is ez to stun and very predictable which is where bard shines. just don't underestimate his ult flash.
Corki
great mobility, and way too much dmg early-mid. you will try to trade but don't take unnecessary poke. try to play it with a balanced risk reward game. if you can trade but will lose the same amount of hp then don't do it. He got more sustain dmg and you can't always rely on your adc to save you from him.
Darius
easy to catch, and easy to get if he's out of position.
Diana
you won't kill her before she kills your adc, ult her in team fights or get exhaust to show your love for the adc's.
Dr. Mundo
mundo is never easy if you don't have a vayne or something late game, but he is not very hard to stun. just don't ult him since he will heal when in stasis. like swain.
Draven
he will out dmg you, and his movement speed ability ****'s you if he is good. also draven has really good synergy with you.
Ekko
ekko can ONESHOT your adc when fed, but besides that he should be pretty easy to q stun. if you chase him with your team always look at his "shadow" and be ready with a stun for it.
Elise
elise.... he spiders take the q for her so that you don't stun her most of the time. I HATE IT. but otherwise in team fights she should be easy enough. she has some pretty strong spells against you tho, so i give her max threat level.
Evelynn
you can't react to what you don't see, she gets a huge shield from her ult and she oneshots. Don't push the lane, and buy alot of control wards.
Ezreal
people might say, ezreal 7!? only? but yes he has one reposition spell and its quite easy most of the time to just waste it or wait until he uses it. only thing is that you most of the time won't kill him since he will still e even if you stun. VERY BORING LANE, AND HE WILL BE ABLE TO KILL YOU THO.
Fiddlesticks
hmm don't see him often, but his ult is hard to do something against as bard. if you see him channeling his ult. immediately ult your teammates and waste his time. ofc only if it's safe to do so.
Fiora
kill you faster than anyother champ here. can catch you easily. W make you wanna puke because you won't hit any ults and a good fiora wont make you q her. very squishy tho most of the time, so in team fights try to hit her, but take another champ than bard if possible.
Fizz
hard to hit because of q-e. and he can oneshot you carry easily. good tip is to ult your carry when you see the shark hit her/him. THEN you can destroy fizz.
Galio
your adc is gonna do the job easily, but if you let him get close you won't have an adc for long. and btw you can't dmg him since he scales of magicresist.
Gangplank
GP is a strong champ for good players, a bad gp is a threat lvl 1 a good is threat lvl 9. he can w out of your q but not your ultimate. late game try to stay backline so that you won't get barrel oneshot.
Garen
Not very hard to predict, he can side step easily tho with q.
Gnar
he has alot of mobility and alot of cc. he can be very dangerous when he turns into mega gnar. try to catch him before he turns or right after he turns back.
Gragas
he has some strong ganks and a pretty neat late game to split up your team. try to ult his team when this happens so that you can reposition with your team again.
Graves
high damage and a dash. can be pretty hard to predict and his dmg is very high. be sure to predict the dash as many will use it to dodge your skillshot.
Hecarim
THIS GUY!! OH MAN. he is so strong right now and his ganks are so strong. even if you stun him he will jump your adc's ***. try your best to peel and try to hit the stun before the incoming jump. deep ward in this matchup.
Heimerdinger
well boring asf, and heimer is not that good in most teams. you can stun him with his own turrets. just don't underestimate his dmg.
Illaoi
she is tanky and has very high dmg with her ult. most of the time when you ult her she will immediately ult afterwards and kill everyone jumping her. without ult you win, just don't go her when she ults.
Irelia
dashes, reset and true dmg. not a fun champ to play against since she is quite tanky aswell. get the locket and redemption fast so that your adc will stay alive.
Ivern
This is our m8, our homie our bro. he is a derp utility champ just like you. dodge his **** and play like a b**** when he ults. always shoot him first and not daisy. Tip, use daisy to stun him.
Janna
janna is so boring to play against and will mostlikely make your lane hard to poke down. try to swap targets when poking so that you poke he one without the shield. In fights kill her or stun/ult her so that she can't provide defense for her team in time. also she is very hard to hit because of her movement speed passive.
Jarvan IV
he can oneshot and he is tanky, but at the same time you can stun him in his own ult. skill matchup.
Jax
he is very simple, if he e's he will probably jump you. try to stun him ofc, and he should die pretty fast as he needs to attack alot before getting use of his passive.
Jayce
very high burst, and i really hate playing against him. he almost never build any tanky stats so that is pretty fortunate since you can kill him with one follow up.
Jhin
range, snare, crit and traps. he is an 8 because he will deny you the bushes most of the time. you can win if he has bad position since he has no dash or real movement spell.
Jinx
i love playing against jinx, no mobility in lane makes so easy for quick kills as bard. get ignite for this if you're confident in your skill. for late game exhaust is better tho. often if she has a thresh/morg/blitz one combo is enough to kill you because of her snares, so don't be in a bad position.
Kalista
its pretty hard to explain it, since she is so off meta right now she is easy, but still hard to hit with your spells. when she is meta it would be a 10 threat level.
Karma
poke, shield, movementspeed and snare. very hard but if you actually manage to kill her or sustain until late game i will say you get on equal terms. only advantage is that you have a stronger ult.
Karthus
hm squishy but don't take so much poke so that he can kill you after you killed him. always back when you are less than 20% hp or atleast heal/pot. tip, you can ult your team for his ult.
Kassadin
pretty hard since he scales well and has kinda unlimited blinks. he is squishy tho like any other assassin.
Katarina
she got so much dmg for mispositioned targets and alot of tower diving potential. every stun you land will lead to a kill, most of the time. people tend to focus her, and for a good reason.
Kayle
she is strong late game, but weak early. she ults? ult her. easy as that.
Kennen
Kennen has alot of speed and cc. if you manage to stop him before he gets into your teams face you should be fine.
Kha'Zix
ONE SHOT WARNING. don't roam into his position without follow up. also don't leave your adc's side in teamfights.
Kindred
easy, just stun her and she can't ult in time. if she ult's you get in a weird position since it's all up to your team to dmg after you have used your spells.
Kled
you probably wont run away from him. try to ult him or his team. this is pretty hard tho since they will be fast.
Kog'Maw
pretty easy, no mobility. you mostly see him mid after his pre-rework.
LeBlanc
her rework is pretty strong but she is manageable. if you q her when she's low you might get a free stun since her clone will **** her up xD
Lee Sin
can't put a threat lvl on lee with his big skill cap. good lee will be r.i.p, bad lee will be free.
Leona
watchout for lvl 2 all in. and try to trade with he if she's on cd. after lvl 3 you should be on equal terms. after 6 you don't wanna 2v2 since her ult is better for stuff like that. if she gets your adc with stun and ult. try to ult her adc and turn/run.
Lissandra
no way to peel for her ult, and she get's quite tanky for a mage.
Lucian
quite easy, but any misplays from your side will most like end in feeding him or giving him extreme lane presence. practise this matchup if possible.
Lulu
skill matchup, she got alot of utility like you. she is easier to play than bard so if you misplay she will most likely win the teamfight.
Lux
don't get hit by her q and she is free. better than being against brand or zyra atleast.
Malphite
unstoppable force is a gamechanging ult and you won't be able to ult before it lands. ult his team so that your team has a chance of turning or getting away.
Malzahar
the new malz support is insane! you can't cc him with his passive. his ult is free kill. don't try to trade with him before late game since his minions will take the stun most likely. also his early dmg is insane so do not go through tribush if you leash for your jungle.
Maokai
tanky but easy to kite.
Master Yi
he got the tools to totally **** you with his q-w. but one stun and he is done for.
Miss Fortune
high dmg, decent mobility. you can trade with her, just change your normal position from behind minions.
Mordekaiser
DON't UNDERESTIMATE HIS Q. he is easy otherwise.
Morgana
she makes me wanna kill myself. if you ever tried this matchup as a cc champ, you will know the pain. her black shield stop incoming dmg from you since it's magic and also makes you not stun them. if you get hit by one q an the adc follows up be ready to flash or pray for salvation.
Nami
you can't trade with her without stunning her. so don't try to trade unless you stun. pretty much a skill matchup.
Nasus
farming champ, strong late, easy otherwise.
Nautilus
i hate the word noob champ, but he is so easy to gain elo on. do not try to all in unless you get the adc in a bad spot. he got too much cc for you to get away.
Nidalee
she's a strong duelist and can make some really great plays. she not that hard to kill tho, and she is nerfed to the ground.
Nocturne
squishy most of the game, and predictable. don't leave your adc much in this game. and don't q when you see him since he want to spell shield it.
Nunu & Willump
easy to kite , but he is mainly for objectives, so always ult him if you're taking an objective.
Olaf
you can't peel your adc, and you will most likely not hit your ult before he presses R. a strong counter to most utility champs.
Orianna
such a good champ, with a powerfull ult. you can get her out of position and kill her in a single stun follow up.
Pantheon
he is scary in early-mid game. but late game you will be the alpha male.
Poppy
she won't be a problem for you, but she will most likely be for your carries. just stun/ slow her and your team should be fine.
Quinn
skillmatchup. she got alot of burst and sustain dmg. but she is maybe one of the squishiest on this list.
Rammus
stun him or he will get to your adc.
Rek'Sai
not hard, but not easy either. don't roam too much with no vision in their jungle.
Renekton
he is quite good, but not op. a skill matchup. he will pretty much punish your adc and you for bad position while he is too tanky to get the same treatment.
Rengar
cc break W. one shots. free crits. i hate the reworked rengar and you should always consider banning him.
Riven
riven is not SUPER OP, but she is hard to deal with with only one dmg ability. Riven is in a quite good spot at the moment so if you're high elo ban her.
Rumble
squishy, high dmg. you know what to do. btw your ult will not stop his dmg.
Ryze
hard to hit once he gets going. be the first to hit and you will most likely force a kill.
Sejuani
GREAT TEAMFIGHTER. ult his team if he ult's yours like amumu matchup.
Shaco
dont push early. control wards don't reveal him so make deep wards. and get a sweeper early since it disables his boxes.
Shen
always be ready to retreat since he most likely will ult bot for the double kill.
Shyvana
fast, tanky and alot of dmg. be afraid cause you won't be able to **** her by your own.
Singed
ehh not so much to say tbh since he won't be your problem until late game.
Sion
strong support, but you have the range advantage. poke him down before all in.
Sivir
you won't be able to stun her sadly. play safe. she gets movement speed from ult and she has a spellshield.
Skarner
don't let him ult your adc. he will be pretty strong late game tho.
Sona
she's pretty strong. got sustain and a game changing ult. win the early game since your all in pre 6 is stronger.
Soraka
annoying asf. don't let them win lane because you will always need to focus soraka, but if the adc is fed you need to focus her. you see the dillema? you can't focus both without a coordinated team, and you're playing solo q. Best of luck.
Swain
very easy, he has so much sustain and dmg, but no burst. tip, don't ult him you just give him free time to heal.
Syndra
one shotting adc is no problem. ohh and she's ranged with cc. try to get a great ult on her or a stun. this will win you the game almost guaranteed.
Tahm Kench
annoying because he got a great disengage for his carry. but i don't find him very hard to win against in lane.
Taliyah
easy if you get her, but she is very strong in both burst and sustained dmg. also you will always look mid.
Talon
not very hard, but he can oneshot like every assassin be aware because his job is to roam.
Taric
easy asf early, his ult is much stronger than yours for direct fights. just ult them before it starts.
Teemo
teemo is annoying, CAN oneshot, and make you adc useless. play around it by peeling.
Thresh
behind minions and harras all early game. also your ult should be stronger than his if you play it right.
Tristana
early you should win, but please don't let the game get too late. she has insane range and scaling. also if you lose lane your tower is gone very soon which leads to play from even further behind.
Trundle
you can even stun this guy in his own wall xD should be easy as hell if you play it right.
Tryndamere
normally trynd is a problem, but if bard hits ult when he ults, he should be an easy kill.
Twisted Fate
always look mid, also make deep wards since his ult range lvl 6 isn't all that far. easy to kill.
Twitch
this guy is so nice to have on your team, but playing against him is really frustrating. if you don't destroy him early he will be stronger than you when he hits 6 and gets items.
Udyr
he is fast but easy since he need to get all in your face to kill.
Urgot
he has range but really you won't meet this guy. kinda skill matchup i think.
Varus
strong early and mid. dodge skill shot and keep a great position. get him with your q and he should be easy. if you have a weak adc like vayne early, don't make too long trades.
Vayne
punish her early and if you reach the point where you meet a great vayne. good luck.
Veigar
ult him so that you team can instantly kill this guy! or he will atleast kill one before going down.
Vel'Koz
so long range and better poke. play safe when you lane against vel support. but try to give opportunities for ganks with your E. E lvl 3 in this matchup is recommended.
Vi
good position and she won't be a big problem. but in solo q this chick is just really strong. try to peel after the ult lands. whatch out for early ganks.
Viktor
high burst and great at punishing. get a great q and you're fine. but most players find it hard to play against him, including me.
Vladimir
not the strongest champ because of nerfs. hit him with a stun after the blood pool.
Volibear
great early ganks so ward up lvl 2. he's quite predictable so easy stuns. bard loves free.
Warwick
i have not been against the new warwick, but i know that he is not gonna be fun for adc's. good luck peeling for him.
Wukong
quite hard to put into a perfect threat level. in teamfights he is a monster. alone you won't be having that much of a problem.
Xerath
you will probably not q this guy the entire game if he is good. get some good ult's on him and **** him up. don't go after him you will get yourself killed.
Xin Zhao
quite easy tbh, but don't forget to ward up early. and like try the others. predictable so just q and make your adc's life much easier.
Yasuo
you won't be making any picks with q here. windwall is annoying. if you do tho he is freelo. don't try to ult him near minions. good yasuo will **** a bard sry to say :/
Yorick
no mobility = infinite stun opportunities.
Zac
hard to peel against and has great ganks / dives. ward the river bush and after lvl 5 -6 behind the wall. he will pobably jump over there if you push.
Zed
ult your adc when you see his ult. you totally **** zed over like that.
Ziggs
win the lane or he will snowball the game really hard by pushing the other lanes early.
Zilean
quite easy, has high mana cost but also better dmg if he hit's his stuff.
Zyra
her plants can be used to stun them, but most of the time they will just be in the way..... hard matchup like brand. she got more utility tho, and is the best support to carry with in my oppinion.
Hello my name is Notbardo and im currently playing on EUW. I got some coaching in bard from a challenger and a diamond a week ago and thought i wanted to write down the build and tips.
About me:
I've been playing bard only since i began the game and i have only played other champs a little in the pre season 7. I landed gold V season 6 playing only bard and no others champs.
I currently have 153K champion points on him.
What to learn:
Most of you are gonna learn the build pattern of bard, but for the people reading the whole guide, i will put some effort into explaining some important mistakes i see on Bard quite often.

Runes
Runes
Why the runes that i have?
8x Attack speed marks
Great for trading and makes you throw meeps faster for better burst.
1x Crit rune mark
The chance is low but devastating if it does crit.
9x Amor seals
Quite standard for trading better in lane, and take less damage.
9x Magic resist glyphs
Many champs like Threshhave magic damage on some spells that are pretty important to prepare for.
Other options
2x Movementspeed quints
Better roaming is important for the mid game.
1x Amor quint
Better survival
Masteries
Masteries
Im not gonna go into depth on this one, but shortly you won't go down ferocity and you want to have thunder lords.
Some might ask me why not more dmg? And why not merciless? Well because bard is not a carry, he is a support. Sustain is better on him.
Spells
Spells
THE ARMY OF MEEPS! (Traveler's call)
This spell is amazing, it makes you get around faster, gives you mana and makes you a better support late game. DON'T LEAVE YOUR ADC FOR CHIMES!
Powerfull chord (Cosmic binding)
The main spell for bard, and is a strong one.
First hit slows the enemy by 60% and deals magic dmg. After Cosmic Binding hits an enemy, the burst of energy passes through them and searches for secondary targets. If it hits a wall or a second enemy, it stuns both targets.
Wan't Cacao? (Caretaker's shrine)
This spell will help you sustain in lane, and make it hard for the enemy to kill you when behind tower. Make use of this spell by placing a couple of heals behind you in lane, so that you can out run the jungle if he comes. It is also a great tool for leaving lane since your carry won't lose much hp with them by his side.
Weed rush (Magical journey)
Great utility spell and it is mainly used to gank/roam. Also a great baiting tool! Btw practise using it from base to lane.
Stop! Hammertime! (Tempered fate)
Puts everyone in a stasis like an AOE zhonya spell. Very strong for teamfighting, but can also be used against yourself. This spell is only utility and can hit allies aswell, this spell is risky since the enemy can use it for their own good at times. Good spell for catching people off guard, and good for trolling also xD.
Great tip's from a Challenger!
Great tip's from a Challenger!
Exhaust vs Ignite
Ignite: Bards lvl 1-2 is great! so ignites synergy with his kit is insane. You can use this for early kills and denying the enemy's heal if you time it.
Exhaust: Exhaust is okay early game, but most of the time it won't lead to a guaranteed kill which i like. Late game this is the best one, at least most of the time. The guy that was coaching me from challenger told me to pick this every time. Thing is i don't trust in my adc's power to follow up so i play selfishly with ignite.
Exhaust = High elo / Duo Q / Against assassins.
Ignite = Low elo / Early advantage / Solo Q
Balancing Risk and Reward
We all know bard is a High risk, High reward champion. But to play him well you need to know how to balance the reward with the risk. ALWAYS ask yourself before doing something. Is the reward higher than the risk im putting myself in? How high is the risk?. Video lesson soon.
Abusing Bard lvl 1
Bards level 1 is insane because of his meep+q+ignite combo. Bard is great for invades with his Q and if you communicate with your team his E. Always play the first 2 levels aggressive, just note that lvl 2 ganks can be unfortunate. Video lesson soon.
Team fighting
This is where your awareness is Win/Lose. As bard you are a great teamfighter, you can almost always decide the outcome if you have just a decent team. You should always look to get one alone so that you'll make it a 4v5. If you have alot of AOE get a team ult and it should be GG.
There is two ways to play with his ult.
Reaction ultimate:
You ult to peel and by whats happening around you without a real plan. This can be okay with 5v5 pre teams, but you will rely too much on your own team doing this. This is the mistake many good mechanically bards make.
Awareness ult/plan:
With a great awareness, good ulting follows aswell. This way of ulting is by planning how the teamfight will play out, and take that into your teams favor. Is lux a big problem? is vayne? Get them before they get rolling so that your team can follow. Ulting the person in a bad position will most likely win you the teamfight.Be sure your team can follow up. This is what a good bard focus heavily on, and doing this right will make you carry the game as a support.
Video lesson soon.
Locked Screen
For bard you cannot use locked screen most of the time. Bard is all about expecting things to happen and then react before it even happened. Most of bards spells are slow. Have great map awareness, always look around the map with bard. Ult+Redemtion combo is great to save people from afar. Video lesson soon.
Warding
Obvious but important. Many just ward the bushes in laning fase which is okay. You don't want to use up your wards too fast. So only ward the bush that the ganks could come from. This depends very much on jungle matchup, since an udyr is easy to ward against but a Zac will be hard. Just play a lot of games and you will learn this over time.
Some matchup's will need you to deep ward, even ward their buff/jungle. After level 6 you need to ward drake and later baron. Practise this and you will do better on other champs too! Video lesson soon.
Playing from behind
This step is ofc always hard to pull off, and you will have to make your team do this as well. When you lose laning, you don't want to take uneccesary fights, this does not mean you should not. Take what i told you about balancing risk and reward, and imagine everything with a higher risk but also a better reward. For an example, you're 0/2, not worth anything. But the enemy adc is 2/0 it becomes a shot down and you will gain alot of gold back. If you manage to play it safe and get a good opportunity you play this well.
Taking the lead
This will not always work, but when it does your chances of winning is much higher. As a support you must focus objectives, but since you can't take them yourself, you will need to lead your team to get them with you via pings and chat. It is very important to stay calm and not flame even tho one is flaming you. Dont waste your time on farming when you have the lead, get towers, drake, herald or baron.
