Malzahar
At this point in the meta, Malzahar is just a beast. His silence, voidlings, and hard CC from ult is just too much for you to deal with. He will poke you and poke you hard and thanks to his passive shield, he gets out unscathed.Overall I hate laning with him the most. Play passive and keep bushes warded at all times. If he's smart he will spawn his voidlings in bush then try to all in you (come 6+) or poke you down hard.
Introduction
Lulu is one of my all time favorite champs specifically due to her ability to cycle from a passive protector, to a chaos causing cynic at the drop of a hat. Not many champs give you as much diversity in a kit but Lulu is one of the top dogs here for sure. For these reasons I was inspired to share with you all my experience
Considering how "off meta" my build may seem, please take a second to read through my reasoning for each item, rune, and mastery before making your judgements. I am still new to guide making and am open for constructive criticism if it comes as well as any praise from those of you who found help when reading.
Now without futher ado, my guide:
Road To Lulu
I started playing Lulu maybe a month or so ago and immediately fell in love. I had been searching for a support that could just do more. A diverse support in both their matchup potential and thier kit. Someone who didn't offer just one thing to a game and who could potentially carry a team to victory. (Enter Lulu) She is a support you can feel confident with no matter the enemy comp and I really hope you find the same success I have when playing her.
**for the record I use this build in ranked and have a 73% win rate with a 5.00:1KDA
Pros/Cons
Pros + Diverse kit + Whimsy (need I say more) + Increases team survivability + Anti assassin/ anti burst + A whole lot of fun to play |
Runes
3x Greater Quintessence of Ability Power |
Standard on most mages. Provides additional shield health early and allows for greater poke during laning phase. ALWAYS take these.
|
9x Greater Mark of Attack Damage |
Well this may just be more of my personal playstyle but I LOVE these runes on Lulu.
For one, most adc/supp's will not expect your aa's to do so much damage (especially during lvl's 1-3). I utilize these runes strictly to poke my enemy down without diminishing my mana pool while also being able to contribute something should we go in before you're able to complete any AP items. (Replacement Option:) Greater Mark of Magic Penetration Not my preference but good if the enemy team is tankier. |
9x Greater Seal of Armor |
Increases chances of survival. Always worth taking.
Helps to avoid being blown up early and synergizes well with Rylai's Crystal Scepter should you choose to make that your last item. |
Playstyle
- POKE EM EARLY -
- POKE EM HARD -
- KEEP YO CARRY ALIVE -
Lulu AP
Why so AP heavy?
The fact of the matter is, every ability in Lulu's kit scales with AP.
Pix, Faerie Companion |
Pix fires a barrage of 3 bolts, dealing a total of 15-117 (at levels 1-18) (+15% of ability power),
at whomever Lulu attacks. What makes this so OP is that your Help, Pix! actually xfers over Pix's AA's to whomever she's shielding. This means the more AP you have, the harder your ally's attacks will hit. Very helpful for last hitting and adding that little extra damage needed to win team fights. |
Help, Pix! |
60% AP scaling on ally cast & 40% AP scaling on enemy cast. This means the more AP, the better your shield and the more damage you can contribute to late game fights.
The combination of Ardent Censer and the rest of her AP items make this an extremely tough shield. |
Whimsy |
I cannot tell you how many times I have saved
an ally or initiated a fight with this ability. It is literally your best friend. It only has 5% AP scaling BUT the ability is extremely effective considering. On Ally Cast: Target ally gains 30 (+5% Ability Power)% Movement Speed and 25/30/35/40/45% Attack Speed for 3/3.25/3.5/3.75/4 seconds. Put this (along with Help, Pix!) on a Volibear or a Warwick and you have single handedly created an unrelenting freight train/ally champion. |
Wild Growth |
Lulu enlarges her ally, knocking nearby enemies into the air. For 7 seconds her ally gains 300 / 450 / 600
(+50% of ability power) bonus health and slows nearby enemies by 30 / 45 / 60% for .25 seconds. You will come to find out how important it is that you have this extra AP. Chain CC can be a total b**** and more often than not, your adc will be the victim (if not yourself). That's an extra 200-300 extra health you'll add to your ult with this build. |
ALWAYS TAKE. WILL SAVE YOUR LIFE.
|
More traditional approach. Good if you dont know you can win lane.

With this build:
Decent Damage Output
Crazy strong shields
High mobility
40% CDR
Ardent Censer: Boosts your shield and adds additional buffs to whomever you target with it. Synergizes perfectly with Help, Pix!. Stacks w/ shield's ATK SPEED buff and adds damage to ally AA's. Also increases movement speed (very handy for roaming) and 10% CDR.
talisman of ascension: Quickly join ally's, charge enemy team when low, great for escapes. A MUST TAKE.
Luden's Tempest: Additional damage and increased movement speed. I take this to supplement the low "in combat" movement speed of Mobility Boots. Agility = survival.
Morellonomicon: 20% CDR, addtnl. mana, addtnl. AP, adds to Help, Pix!
Rylai's Crystal Scepter: Adds slow to Help, Pix!. Good if you need more of a gap closer or need more survivability.
Zhonya's Hourglass: Perfect if you are being targeted hard. Can be used as bait enemy's into engaging fights or prevent damage.
Rabadon's Deathcap: Always a safe bet! I like this because your Help, Pix! strength spikes (assuming its your last item). Build last if you build at all.
Void Staff: Take if they have multiple tanks and you need to add some damage to your team fights.
