Varus on hit build guide
+9% attack speed and +10 ability power or +6 attack damage, adaptive
Hello guys, I'm MisterFirstBlood from EUW and today I'm gonna show you how to play Varus in Season 8.
Pro's and con's

+ A lot of CC.
+ Mixed damage.
+ High range abilities.
+ Melt tanks.
+ Reduce Healing effects of enemies.
- No Mobility. Easy to gank.
- Weak early game.
Passive : Living Vengeance
Innate: Varus gains 40% (+ 50% bonus attack speed) bonus attack speed for 5 seconds upon an enemy champion takedown, reduced to 20% (+ 25% bonus attack speed) bonus attack speed on minion or monster kills.
Q: Piercing Arrow
TARGET RANGE: 925 - 1625 (based on channel time) SPEED: 1850 COST: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 mana COOLDOWN: 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 / 12
First Cast: Varus channels for up to 4 seconds, increasing Piercing Arrow's range and damage over the next 2 seconds. Varus can still move while channeling but is pacified and slowed by 20%.
Piercing Arrow is automatically canceled when the channel ends, refunding half of its mana cost.
Second Cast: Varus fires in the target direction, dealing physical damage to all enemies in the arrow's path, increased by 0% - 50% (based on channel time). The total damage is reduced to 100% - 33% (based on enemy hit) damage.
Minimum Physical Damage:
10 / 46.7 / 83.3 / 120 / 156.7 (+ 100% AD)
Maximum Physical Damage:
15 / 70 / 125 / 180 / 235 (+ 150% AD)
Detonating Blight stacks on an enemy champion reduces Piercing Arrow's cooldown by 4 seconds.
W: Blighted Quiver
Passive: Varus's basic attacks deal bonus magic damage and apply Blight for 6 seconds, stacking up to 3 times.
Bonus Magic Damage:
10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 (+ 25% AP)
Varus's other abilities consume Blight on enemies upon damaging them, dealing them magic damage for each stack, capped at 360 against monsters.
Magic Damage per Stack:
2 / 2.75 / 3.5 / 4.25 / 5% (+ 2% per 100 AP) of the target's maximum health
E: Hail of Arrows
TARGET RANGE: 925 COST: 80 mana COOLDOWN: 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10
Active: Varus fires a hail of arrows that deals physical damage on impact to all enemies in the target area.
70 / 105 / 140 / 175 / 210 (+ 60% bonus AD)
The area desecrates the ground for 4 seconds, slowing all enemies standing in it and applying Grievous Wounds.
25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45%
R: Chain of Corruption
TARGET RANGE: 1075 COLLISION RADIUS: 60 EFFECT RADIUS: 550 TETHER RADIUS: 600 SPEED: 1850 COST: 100 mana COOLDOWN: 110 / 90 / 70
Active: Varus flings out a tendril of corruption that infects the first enemy champion hit, dealing magic damage, rooting them for 2 seconds and applying 3 stacks of Blight over 1.5 seconds.
100 / 175 / 250 (+ 100% AP)
On impact, the tendril seeks out nearby enemy champions and forms a tether to them. If the tether isn't broken within 2 seconds, they are rooted, and applied the same effects as the initial target. Tendrils will continue to spread until there are no champions in range that have not already been affected.
I highly recommend a on-hit effect build which contains Runaans Hurricane, Guinsos Rageblade and blade of the ruined king.
If you're against a lot of AP champs you should add wits end also.
Since rageblade received a nerf in early your laning core item will be blade of the ruined king now. After finishing it you can decide to buy either runaans hurricane or guinsoos rageblade.
Finish your build with things like scimitar/GA/frozen mallet.
By the way; Ninja tabi are always better then Berserker's on champs with that much attack speed because you would overcap with that additional 35%.
Every keystone rune in precision tree fits on varus but i really think Conqueror is broken atm so i recommend you to abuse it as long it is that strong for rangeds.
Alacrity Coupe de Grace and Triumph will be the best overall choices in precision tree.
Take Feast and eyeball collection in domination secondary or try out resolve tree if you like to play more defensively.
- Use E at the begin of a trade to deny healings in Fights. Do 3 Auto attacks and just shoot Q instantly to remove the Blight marks and continue attacking.
- R is easier to hit if your enemies get slowed from your E before.
- Many people underrate the range of your ult. You can catch a lot of people with it but take care your team has a follow up for it.
- It's not generally wrong to attack what is in range instead of carries. You will melt tanks very fast with this item build so it's maybe better to kill the tank first then go out of position trying to kill a carry and die.
- Every of your abilities will trigger the Blight marks from your W passive. So if you didn't hit your E for example you still can use Q or R to deal the damage when needed.
- Red buff is very strong with on hit builds
- Dont channel Q among a fight. You will deal way more damage by attacking your enemies constantly.
Lategame varus is extremely strong against tanky team comps but he's also very vulnerable to ganks what can be very frustrating. It's a very varied and funny pick which still has a chance to success. Try it out and tell me your experiences with it. :)
