Maokai, the twisted treeant. This is a guide to a successful jungle Maokai, which can be a great asset to your team.

Summoner Spells

Flash Smite

These spells are great to have on Maokai. Smite is a necessity on every jungler. Being able to deal the extra damage to jungle creeps is very helpful. Flash is a helpful spell when it comes to being able to enter or exit a battle quickly. It can become very helpful while ganking other lanes.

Wit's End 2800
Warmog's Armor 3100
Rylai's Crystal Scepter 2600

Starting the game off with a Hunter's Machete and 5 health potions will help. Hunter's Machete gives you bonus damage to jungle camps which will help you jungle faster, leaving you available to gank faster.

First back, I suggest getting Boots of Speed and Madred's Razors, again helping you kill camps quicker and catch the enemy faster, I also suggest building the Madred's Razors into a Wriggle's Lantern as quickly as you can.

Next, upgrade your boots to Ninja Tabi's or Mercury Treads. This choice will be solely dependant on the other teams layout. If the enemy team has a large amount of physical damage dealers, Ninja Tabi's are the better choice. Mercury Treads are better for a enemy team dependent on Ability Power. Building a Sunfire Cape is another good thing to finish after this back. Its continuous magic damage is very helpful.

About this time in the game, team fights should be happening more and more. Getting a Wit's End and Warmog's Armor would prove beneficial at this point. Giving you extra health and attack speed.

Finally, build a Rylai's Crystal Scepter to give you the extra ability power and health.

When jungling Maokai, the E ability "Sapling Toss" is a fantastic way to start off on jungle camps. The sapling can be tossed from a range, giving it time to deal damage up contact, and then extra damage from exploding while you attack. Another ability you want to level early is the Q ability "Arcane Smash". Combining the Q and E on jungle camps will clear the camps out quickly.

Leveling the W ability early on is optional. I would suggest leveling it up at least once by level 3 which will make ganks easier, seeing as the W ability "Twisted Advanced" will root the enemy champion to the ground, making attacks on them easier.

Levels 6,11, and 16, you should level up your R ability which is also your ultimate, named "Vengeful Maelstrom." Having this ability in teams fights would prove helpful, as it can deal a large amount of damage in a short amount of time. Combining all 4 of your abilities in fights like that, can help your team dispatch enemies with ease.

General Tips for Maokai Jungling

Starting off with Maokai jungling, I would suggest go for blue buff. Maokai can easily go through his mana while jungling. However, starting off at wolves would not be that bad of an idea. If the enemy is invading however, it would be helpful to have you team try to help at blue and prevent a invade if it happens. After getting blue, get wolves, then work your way across to the other side and get wraiths and golems. From there its just get the camps that respond. Playing jungle, that means one of your lanes are going to be soloing. Mainly top lane. As a jungler, be prepared to gank, especially if its a 1v2 top lane. It helps to have the "Twisted Advance" ability leveled up at least once for ganks on top lane.
