A Quickstart Beginner's Guide to Jhin, The Virtuoso

Champion Profile

Jhin - The Virtuoso
Artist, Murderer, Psychopath

Faction: Ionia
Occupation: Hitman

Official Bio: Jhin is a criminal psychopath who believes there is art in killing, freed from his bonds by a mysterious Ionian cabal to serve as their assassin. He kills with the elegance of a dancer, the grace of a painter, the precision of a seasoned sniper and the murderous intent of a serial killer.
Welcome one and all to my first ever champion guide for League of Legends featuring Jhin, the Virtuoso.

I've played League of Legends from Season 3 to Season 7, took a break for the entirety of Season 8, and now I'm back with a vengeance for Season 9 baby.

The majority of the guide is still a work in progress (I'm still learning how to code in mobafire) but the more important bits are already here! (mostly)
WHISPER (Passive): Jhin's modular firearm, Whisper, has unique properties similar to Graves's shotgun.

+Jhin will receive bonus AD based on the amount of crit chance and bonus attack speed he gets from items.
+Jhin's fourth shot is a guaranteed critical hit and will also deal a percentage of the enemy's missing health on top. To offset, Jhin must reload his gun after every fourth shot and his critical hits deal less damage.
+Jhin's critical strikes increases his movement speed based on bonus attack speed from items, but attack speed from items will not make him shoot any faster. Jhin's base attack speed will still scale per level normally.

Dancing Grenade (Q): Jhin launches a grenade towards his target, which will jump to 3 other nearby targets. The grenade's damage will increase for every target it kills. Max this first for maximum wave clear and trade power.

Ironically, it neither explodes nor does it dance.

Deadly Flourish (Q): Jhin brandishes Whisper's longer half and fires a long range shot that stops at the first champion hit. An enemy champion that has been hit by Jhin or a teammate will be marked. Marked champions hit by this ability will be briefly rooted.

The range on this ability is long, so make sure to make the most out of it.

Captive Audience (Q): Jhin plants an invisible lotus trap on a target location. Enemies that step on the trap will activate it, slowing them down before detonating after a short duration. Enemies slowed by the trap will also be marked for Deadly Flourish.

Use this ability to cover the approaches to your flanks or to create an escape route. You can also place it on ganking paths so you see any enemies coming.

Curtain Call (Q): Jhin fully assembles Whisper and locks himself in place, gaining massively increased range in a cone in front of him and four super bullets that deal increased damage the lower the enemy's health is. The fourth shot will also deal 200% damage.

For most, this ability is a literal hit-or-miss. You need to hit your shots to make the most out of this ability but you can also use it to cut off the enemy's retreat, or make them do a panic-induced dance as they try to avoid your shots.

You have three choices for boots depending on the match-up and how the game is going overall. Boots of Swiftness should be your go-to choice as they synergize well with your passive movement speed boosts, but if you're up against champions like Lucian or Draven then you may want to consider Ninja Tabi for the extra early game survivability. On the other hand, you can go with Berserker's Greaves if you have a strong lead in the beginning or swap out your boots for these in the late game to maximize your damage output.

Infinity Edge
Your first core item. Infinity Edge gives you raw damage and mitigates Whisper's crit damage reduction, making your fourth shot even stronger. You can go with up to four of these bad boys if you're doing really well or are feeling very artistic.

Rapid fire? Where's the fun in that?
Rapid FireCannon is Jhin's safest Zeal item upgrade. The extra burst damage and stats are nice. The added range isn't exactly necessary but is very much welcome. Combine it with Statikk Shiv if you prefer your music electric.
