Introduction

Hey everyone, this is my very first guide for League of Legends, ever, and I hope you guys enjoy it. I've used Akali many, many times since I bought her, and I still love her amazing utility, kit, and the amount of fun a skilled player can have playing her. She is probably my favorite champion to play. Watching enemies health drop to zero in a matter of seconds is a great feeling. I hope everyone who reads this guide will realize how great Akali is, and will use (or continue to use) her in the future.

When Akali is Needed

The one thing that I hate above all else when seeing a someone play Akali is when as soon as the character picking begins, they immediately chose Akali and lock themselves in. While this isn't inherently bad on its own (actually, it is), it could disrupt your team's chance of winning. Sometimes Akali is just not needed. But how do you know when she is?

In a 5vs5 match:
-Does your team have a solo top? No? Akali.
-Does your team have a mid laner? No? Akali.
-Does your team need a jungler, tank, or support? Don't pick Akali.

In a 3vs3 match:
-Does your team have an assassin? No? Akali.
-Does your team need a jungler, tank, or support? Don't pick Akali.

Core Summoner Spells

Primary Summoner Spells

Flash: This spell is great for Akali as it provides both a way to catch up to enemies while Shadow Dance is on cooldown. It also helps to cover the distance if Shadow Dance is just a little bit too far away to be used. However, Flash's better use would be to escape over walls, or to get away in general.

Ignite: A great addition to Akali's already great burst damage, and is extremely helpful against champions who have healing abilities, such as Dr. Mundo and Swain, since it reduces healing effects by 50%.

Runes

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration x9:
The bonus magic penetration that these runes give are an amazing add-on to Akali's damage.

Greater Seal of Scaling Magic Resist x9:
Because Akali is an assassin, and is usually fighting AP heavy champions, she needs magic resist to ensure that she bursts them down before she dies.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power x9:
Bonus ability power, really helps your total damage.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power x3:
Same as above. Improves your early game damage particularly, by quite a lot.

Escaping

Akali has two forms of natural escaping abilites, namely Twilight Shroud and Shadow Dance. This makes Akali sound like the perfect escape artist, however, both of her escape moves have their own unique downfall.

Twilight Shroud can be easily negated by the purchase of an Oracle's Elixir, or even a Vision Ward.

Shadow Dance is enemy or neutral monster dependent, which means those things have to be in your escape route in order for Akali to utilize them.

There are ways to get around this though. If you see an enemy carrying an Oracle's Elixir, or you know that they consumed one because they can see through your stealth, focus on assassinating them, because they most likely forget to re-buy another elixir after dying. If they do re-buy one, they are out another 400 gold, which can be a real pain if the game continues in the same way.

Juking

One of the things that separates a good Akali from a bad Akali is their ability to juke enemies. You must be able to fully utilize your Twilight Shroud and your Shadow Dance if you want to avoid being bursted down by squishy stompers.

Basic Technique: Throw down Twilight Shroud, run a random way once it's about to vanish, preferably the opposite way then your opponent is.
Difficulty level: 2.
Escape chance: 3.

Intermediate Technique: Throw down Twilight Shroud near a wall. Use flash over it. Laugh when your opponent realizes what happened 8 seconds later.
Difficulty level: 4.
Escape chance: 8.

Advanced Technique: Throw down Twilight Shroud a medium sized ways from a group of enemy minions (who are preferably in the direction of the way you want to run). After about 7 seconds, use Shadow Dance on a minion (sometimes twice, once to the caster minions and once to the melee minions.
Difficulty level: 5.
Escape chance: 6.

Jungle Technique: Optionally throw down Twilight Shroud. Use Shadow Dance through a wall to a neutral monster (if possible, use it from a neutral monster camp, so that you can juke backwards if needed.
Difficulty level: 7.
Escape chance: 7.

The Enemy Team Will Hate You Forever And Always If You Can Pull This Off Technique: Never, ever, ever purposely initiate this technique. Most of the time, you will die, but I have been successful in pulling this off before, but honestly, your chances are very slim. Basically, you want to try this after being pulled into the center of the enemy team, consisting of 2-5 members. In any regular circumstance, being at the center of this many enemies would mean immediate death for Akali. She, being an assassin, can't take many hits. You are going to have to get out of there. If a wall is near bye, don't hesitate to flash over it, since this technique is a last resort kind of thing. If the enemy has any form of AoE abilities, don't throw down Twilight Shroud. If they don't, do it to buy you some time. The main element of this technique is surprise, since few adversaries expect Akali to be this ballsy, especially if she is alone. Make sure you have 3 charges of Shadow Dance. If you don't, try your best to stall, or just go for this technique anyway. You don't have much to lose. First, Shadow Dance to their tank, who can't deal you much damage to you. Make sure they have no major CC, or you just committed suicide. Use your second charge of Shadow Dance to go to their AP/AD carry, who will almost always be behind everyone else. Lastly, Shadow Dance in reverse back to their tank, who should be running toward you by now, and run like hell in the opposite direction. If it doesn't work, you wasted some of the enemies time. If it does, you can proceed to laugh for the rest of the entire game, and the enemy team will hate you forever.
Difficulty level: 10.
Escape chance: 2.

Auto Attacking, Don't Forget It

Many people underestimate Akali's auto attack, which is probably because she doesn't build attack damage, which means that her auto attacks generally should do relatively little damage. However, because of Akali's passive, Twin Disciplines, her auto attacks scale off of her ability power as well. Because of this, after rushing at an enemy squishy with Shadow Dance and using your combo, don't be afraid to throw in a couple of auto attacks, which could secure the kill for you in less time than waiting for your cooldowns to refresh. Doing this gives you more time to escape, or at least a better chance of killing them with your next burst. This separates a good Akali from a bad Akali. Don't be the one that dies under a turret because you were waiting for your skills.
