Offensive Runes
Offensive runes are basic. Not really needed, but if you want more hurt.
Your everyday AP offensive runes.
Defensive Runes
You have a couple different runes to choose from for defensive runes.
Heath runes for better survival early game.
Magic Resistance for other mages.
Utility Runes
Great for chases and get-aways. Mixes well with Janna's passive and if your rolling Mobility Boots.
Good if you want a level advantage early and mid game. mixes well with the Awareness Mastery and if you have solo lane. even better with Zilean's passive.
Cooldown Reduction runes for more output.
Energy Runes?
Now, I've had an interest in energy runes for some time now, and i never really used, or bought some. I have more interest in the energy per level runes, Greater Quintessence of Meditation and the Greater Glyphs of Lucidity.
Item Explanation
Early Game
Now from level 1-6 you can be laid back and farm. Which i fine, because akali doesn't do much early game. at level two if you want to harass, do this combination. mark your target, shroud towards them, walk to them, release the mark, walk away. Now this combo is great for constant harass, but you have to choose your targets, and moments right. If they are in minion range, dont do it. If they are ready to strike you, back up. only hit them if you won't get more dmg in return
Mid Game
mid game id say level 6-16 at level 6 you can start doing some heavy dmg. now that you have your dash, you can release marks much easier. combo mark, dash, spin, shroud. Now you do a large dmg output without getting too much aggro. You can also start ganking at this time. so be open to that. When playing akali do not engage first in a team-fight! when going head first in a team fight, you get targeted and get unneeded dmg. wait for your tank to engage and then you can hop in. always focus who your team is focusing. since you do massive dmg you don't wanna spread dmg.
Late Game
Late game is when i see most akalis lose touch. you want to keep up stacks. so don't be too eager to engage. only do it when you and your team is prepared.
