Introduction

Sona is a high burst damage Mage with unrivaled versatility and easy to play. Sona has sustain, a game changing ultimate ability, and also a high skill cap. She can properly fit into the Support role too, having strong poking abilities and allowing you to win lane and get your ADC fed under most circumstances. Sona has a strong early, mid, and late game and is easy to get back into the game with if you die in laning phase or have little CS. Sona still does damage and is always viable in pretty much every part of the game.

I have played hundreds of games with Sona in every role but Jungle, including APC. Most summoners play Sona as support in the meta, however her abilities elsewhere are for more useful. Still, Support Sona is great to have and is a good champion overall. Sona has high damage output and almost every game I played with her in mid lane to be specific, I have carried. She is fun to play and can suit the likes of most players.

This is my first guide ever I want to thank all of the people who taught me coding and just making a good guide in general! I hope you like it and I plan to update it for every patch and make even more guides.

Abilities

This is Sona's passive and gives her extremely high burst damage. After 3 abilities, Sona's passive will proc and depending on the last ability you used, your auto attack will do something different.Using your Q, your auto attack will deal a very, very high ammount of damage. Using your W, your target's attack damage is decreased. Using your E, your target's movement speed is decreased. Mastering and even beginning to use this passive does require a good memory, but it becomes lethal and makes Sona unstoppable in most instances.A way to remember your passive more easily is that if your passive is up, depending on the last spell you will have a glowing ring around your waist. Blue is for your , Green is for your , and Purple is for your .

This is Sona's main damage output. Something that most players may not know is that Sona's Q and auto attack both go off at the same time if you wish for them to. Sona's Q shoots two beams of blue crazy magic stuff that cannot be missed/dodged/parried except if the target uses or items similar to this. Always use this in combination with your auto attack if possible, with your passive up or not. This combo does more damage either way and can be used both at the same time. Though remember that your Q is LONGER than your auto attack range.

Sona's healing ability that makes her a great champion to have in teamfights. The healing scales up with how low your target's health are. Though it only heals two allies I believe, it does give people a shield too. This in combination with is a powerful item that all support Sona players should take, due to when you heal your ADC for example, their attack speed is increased by 25% for 6 seconds which can make or break a fight.

This ability is often underestimated when it shouldn't be. This gives you and anyone in your radius (and a bit out of it) more movement speed and can be very powerful at maximum rank. Every time you tag an ally with the ring, the spell lasts longer. Use this for engagements, disengagements, closing gaps, or simply increasing your speed.

Sona's ultimate ability. This ultimate can easily change the game from defeat to victory. Everyone who is hit by the ultimate is stunned in place for a few seconds and all take a reasonable amount of damage. Unlike some mid laners you don't really gain a huge power spike at level 6, though your ganking/roaming, dueling, and teamfight abilities do still increase. Something most people don't know is that your ultimate increases your other abilities power, though the bonus to them aren't immense they still help. You gain more damage from your Q, stronger shields from your W, and a lot more speed from your E each time your ultimate is ranked up.

Spells

Flash is a useful spell and can be used to last hit or ult a teamfight.

Ignite can do the last damage to an enemy which Sona often lacks due to her main damage being from her Q/AA combo and her R.

Heal can help you have better sustain against people who counter you and gives a really nice speed buff on top of your E.

People don't like to use this as often as it should be used. It's good for squishy people because they have less health and Heal will not be as effective, this also has a lower cooldown. But Heal does help allies and gives movement speed to everyone. It just depends on your preferences really I guess.

Sona has mana problems early game. I do NOT recommend taking this spell but it could be useful early - mid game especially if you play AP Support with mana hungry ADCs.

Tips and Combos

Sona has a lot of combinations or ability orders to use in fights. Typically you will use Q > AA > R and make Ignite or AA while they're stunned until your Q is up again.

Your passive is up after you use your 3rd ability, so if you do not have your passive up then use your E > W > Q > AA as an engaging combo. This will give you a speed boost, then heal you (and give you a shield), and then attack the enemy with your passive proc'ed.

In lane your enemy can hide in bushes to avoid being harassed as your Q only hits what it can see, prioritizing champions. Keeping the bushes warded can help you poke or start fights.

When disengaging, particularly in a duel, using your ultimate, then E'ing to get away will almost gurantee you escape. However against more mobile champions, if you use your E with your passive proc'ed on an enemy while they are stunned, they will have very little chances to catch up with you as their movement speed will be greatly decreased.

Your W when used for your passive will decrease the target's output damage. Using this against high burst damage assassins or mages can possibly save you or an allies' life, as it will have a significant effect on the enemy due to their damage coming instantly rather over time. It's hard to perfect this and requires much practice to use appropriately, but is a powerful skill to know.

Your W gives a shield and a heal at the same time. In lane, leting your ADC or yourself get poked once, and then W'ing as the enemy attempts to poke or engage for you can let you use your shield and heal to maximum potential. Healing the previous attacks and also blocking off a bit of their current attacks. This can actually change who wins a duel if you and your enemies' damage are very close.

Teamfighting

Sona is a strong teamfighter surprisingly, not because of her damage necessarily, but because of her ultimate. If the enemy team gathers all up, you can hit them with your ultimate and your team will most likely win unless the enemy is insanely fed.

Since most high burst damage Mages/Assassins are squishy. , , , are squishy, you want to be targeting them as either you or your teamfight will likely kill them very quickly.Do NOT target tanks if you can help it.
